Connection has timed out! Help please

For over a week now have had endless problemw with websites "taking too long to respond". This is happening on a 4 mth old HP laptop preloaded with Windows 10. Makes no difference if wifi or wired in, whether I use Firefox or Edge. Running Kaspersky security and that's up to date; even disconnecting the firewall doesn't help. My old Windows 7 (AVG) desktop is working fine, so presume its not Plusnet provider.

For an almost "new" computer this is absolutely driving my mad - any suggestions please gratefully appreciated!

Try installing Google Chrome. Connection time out usually relate to the connection of your laptop to the internet. There is no either internet connection or slow internet.

Run a test on http://www.speedtest.net/ to see what up/down connection you're getting to your house before doing any troubleshooting, could be something out of your control.

Disable the wifi then try again with wired ...then report back again.

  • thanks for suggestions, have cleared cookies\history, tried wi-fi and wired, turning router on\off, done the speed test (much the same as the old Windows 7).

Not tried chrome, as Firefox & Edge both reacting the same.

Now un-installed Kaspersky and using Defender.

    Still no better!
  • I don't use w10 but there have been a few problems with it's drivers regarding internet. See if you've got the latest driver/s. It's also worth installing InSsider (free) to see which channels have got the strongest local signal and change your router setting accordingly. (the lowest number is the strongest). http://www.inssider.com/downloads/

  • Thanks, drivers are up to date and have now changed the channel & installed chrome, but still no better! :(
