AXA Home Insurance any good? They have a lot of bad reviews..

Hello all,

So AXA are coming out the cheapest for me to insure with by a long way.

Although i am really put of by the amount of reviews which state they have trouble claiming and bad customer service reviews.

What are they like?

I really do not want trouble claiming on something as important as a home to save a few quid

    You read the reviews

Now you know why they are cheap!
  • Yea i guess i do :rotfl:

By a few quid i mean around £100-150 so it is significant.

What confuses me is Marks and Spencers have home insurance which is more expensive but it is underwritten by AXA. If i went with Marks and Spencers would that mean they are then as bad as AXA?

Ultimately it is the insurer who decides/pays any claims so yes I guess so. However if you read reviews of most insurers, they nearly all have poor ratings (if you find a good one, let us know!). I think this is in part because people are more likely to bother to do a review if they have an axe to grind and in part because insurers are more 'sharp' and less generous when considering claims these days than they used to be.

For instance LV used to cover subsisdence with no provisos; end of story. But now they have introduced a whole set of exclusions making it much more difficult to secure a payout for a subsidence claim.
  • You need to make sure that you are comparing Apples with Apples in terms of getting home insurance. Policies can have differing levels of cover which will affect the end premium paid

Polices very very similar just more concerned about the provider being crap if anything went wrong

I have nothing but good things to say about AXA and their home insurance.

We were burgaled a couple of years back. The claim progress was a bit slow, but they paid out £10k without a fuss.
Sure there were bits that weren't great - reducing the payouts for jewellery by 10% because we asked for cash in lieu (although their valuations were fair), one of the ipads they supplied still had stickers from the orevious owner on it. But I think this is standard industry stuff.

The only advice I'd give (for any Insurer) is to keep good records of proof of ownership of the big stuff. The more evidence you have to support your claim the easier it is.

Perhaps being burgaled caught them off their guard; now if you had been burgled, then .......

I'm with AXA, (and I'm an insurance broker) moved on a recommendation from a client (via our brokerage) who said they were brilliant after a candle fire.

I know that claims service changes very frequently between companies.

AXA have many contracts so make sure the one that's coming top of the heap on the comparison site gives all the cover you need.

Have heard bad things on bike thefts, either from a garage or town centre, so if this is important to you, make sure you can abide by their terms.

I've been with AXA. No complaints so far, customer service was very good.
But not made a claim so who knows what that's like.

All big companies have bad reviews. It's impossible to spot the legitimate ones

  • I had been with AXA home insurance for 18 years and one month ago i got broken in to . AXA said they where short staffed so i need to wait . I had no tv on phone on computer no music player and many other bit all gone . Two week they wanted me to wait so i sent them a text say it is wrong . I am all so made to feel i do somethink wrong by making a claim . I am sad i am feeling like it but they take they time . And now i get a call to say i still need to wait a week even though they have all they need . I had to show bank statement and much more to say i still have the items but still no pay up . I am thinking i will need a Solicictor to get my money they owe me . I will not stay with AXA when it is over . I hope this helps
