Urgent. I had my ESTA approved in March 2016. Then received note 1st April it is cancelled due to my passport not being microchipped. This is a new passport issued Feb 2016 with chip. I travel in May. Don't want to renew in case it invalidates my previous approval.

Did you use you new passports number to get the ESTA?

Id assume it relates to a previous ESTA issued against your old passport and the same email address.
I've been able to check my newest ESTA is still approved online. I hope you kept a note of the number!0 -
Chezzy, it was a well publicised c*ck up that affected lot's of people. As long as your Esta is showing as approved then you're good to go.0
