DAB Radio quality was exceptional in the Range Rovers I was driving last year.

Perhaps it depends on the quality of the rest of the system?

A better system will sound better, of course, but the limitation is the broadcast - that's the same in a RR as in a £10 pocket DAB radio. It uses the same tech as MP3 streaming (and SD Freeview sound) to broadcast, so pretty old, but the real problem is how much they squash it to save bandwidth - same thing as squishing the quality of the TV channels, to fit more in. As above, mono instead of stereo will roughly halve bandwidth required, and allow you two stations instead of one. That's ok really, but I listen to 6Music, which from memory is broadcast at 120kbps - and that's the highest I've seen. You're listening to a low quality MP3 all the time. Not so much of a problem in the car though.
True, luckily for me, I like jazz FM, which is on DAB+ and uses AAC coding,

Eh? There's DAB+ being broadcast in the UK?

wonder if the OP has it sorted

Yes I'd be interested to know too but I expect the OP has given up on this thread.

Seems to be the way now on this board.

Too many posters trying to jockey for position - desperate to prove how knowledgable they are... but at the expense of actually helping the poster who asked the question.

The OP got plenty of advice but he's hardly been in a rush to update this thread, however if you've got something useful to post then please feel free.

Hi. OP back with update for those interested.

The dealer phoned last week and advised that they could sort it. I quizzed them to find out is it going to be 'factory' system, to which I was assured yes. Left the car in and picked it up Saturday. It's a disaster of a hash up of add ons. I have to go to one FM preset station then scroll up and down on the wheel to choose stations in an alphabetical order.

Complete disaster really and I'll be back to rejecting the car come Monday morning

How would you have to choose the station on the factory system

This is a mishmash of an add on. The factory system is all integrated through the touchscreen. This is like something I could have bought out of halfords and done myself.

I wanted a new car and am paying for a new car. I shouldn't have to 'settle' for something second rate just because of someone else's mistake.

No. They wish to reject the car because the radio system that has been installed is not the same specification as the one that should have been fitted originally and is not the same specification as they were told it would be before the work was carried out.
