A couple of weeks after I posted my message we picked up a lhasa apso and called him Max.

He is wonderful. We all adore him. We love to walk him, groom him, look after him. Kids have been fantastic, cleaning up after him. He isnt been as bad since he went to groomers, but everyone pitching in to clean a messy bum. I get such joy when we take him to the beach and he runs around having the time of his life. He has been the best decision we have made.

Husband loves him to bits, calls him son!

It was hard the first couple of weeks toilet training him, but he is so clever, his intelligence amazes me. He has loved puppy class playing with his little classmates. I will be sad when they are finished.

He is such a handsome boy as well. I could just look at him all day.

Taking him to the beach rings alarm bells - make sure you aren't over-exercising him. Depending on the breed I think rule of thumb it 5 minutes for every month as their bones are still developing - you can cause serious long term health issues.

I got a puppy a few days ago and have the book 'The Happy Puppy Handbook' - very interesting and useful read.

Ours is 10 weeks old and seems pretty house trained which is lucky but is struggling with being crated at night (even in our bedroom). Lots of sleepless nights so far.

Yes i know all about overexercising him. We aren't out long but he does love to be free of his lead. The who idea of getting a dog of his breed was that he wouldnt need a lot of exercise. We see a highland terrier who is 8 year old and crippled with arthritis poor thing.

Max is now 6 month old. He was fine in the crate, still is, we had a pen to start with and he only whimpered the first couple of nights. He was very good.
