BT TV Installation??

Options
(Sorry can't find an existing thread!)
I am considering dumping Sky and going over to BT TV (I already have BT Infinity broadband and phone). However the BT "router" is at the other end of the house - does the new BT TV box need a wired connection to the router, or is wifi good enough? Also how much signal is coming over the phone line and how much is coming down the TV aerial? - In other words is using the TV likely to impact on the Internet traffic and vice versa?

    BT Box is wired .
Aerial channels like Freeview do not use the Internet .

I use Home Networking Plugs to feed the BT TV Box .

Needs a wired connection, you can either run a network cable across the floor/ceiling/whatever or use these, one by the router, one by the BT box by your TV:

    Neat pieces of kit :)

    Thanks.
Two points I have discovered on the BT web site. They quote about £80 for the PowerLintk boxes (£22 on Amazon!). They also say that if you want the extra (non-Freeview) channels then these are delivered by broadband and a) they will slow the rest of the Internet connections in the house and b) the ethernet must be a direct cable - Powerlink is not enough!!.
Anyway all a bit academic as the wife needs to be able to view the Sky Living channel and that is not available in any BT bundle

I'm in a similar situation with a router being upstairs with no direct cabling to my downstairs TV, but BT said I can use Broadband Extenders and it will work fine. I picked some up for about £25 from the BT shop.

Are Broadband Extenders the same thing or similar to powerline adapters?

My Bt TV box works fine over powerline adaptors and they are old low powered ones .

Dont think you can get away with powerline adapters. They work fine in some homes and not at all in others. A cable is cheaper and more reliable.

I used powerline adapters with my BT box (they provided them free at the time) and it worked no problem. Iirc, they are not officially supported by BT themselves as they don't work for everyone - its dependant on the state of the house's wiring.

Took a bit of fiddling for me as they interfered with my tv signal, so make sure you keep all the wires apart if this is the route you go down.

A cable is not practical in my case, with the router being upstairs front of house, TV downstairs back of house. I would need a very long cable and a lot of work to fit it.

I use both (I have 2 boxes) and they both work fine. But BT don't have Skys entertainment channels so will probably not be an option for you. TalkTalks YouView platform does but there are no live HD channels available.
