Nowhere. They've made an admin error. They're not responsible for you spending money you didn't yet have.
You may get a small goodwill gesture if you complain, but that's it.0 -
Mistakes happen Paul, Time to move on and pay your dad back at a rate and plan that suits you both here and for the record Halifax are not entitled to cover your eager spending habits.

Lesson here is to read things through properly and read between the lines.0 -
You don't stand anywhere. Clerical errors happen and you have no legal entitlement to the money as a result of a mistake. It works both ways. Had they said you were getting £80 but then realised it should have been £600, they wouldnt be able to keep the extra £720 for themselves.
You should consider this a lesson that you should not spend money until it is in your account.

I'd go with zx81's suggestion, OP. He normally talks sense on these boards, and he is here.
You're not likely to profit from Halifax's error. It certainly wouldn't get anywhere in court or with the ombudsman. Best you can hope for, as said above, is a goodwill gesture from them if you phone them and ask them nicely.
Given that there's not a lot you can do about Halifax, the only thing to offer suggestions on is how to pay your dad back the money you now owe him. Which is why I think zx81 was pretty spot on.0 -
