What to do with PAC code?

Hi all, Hubby has just got a new phone on a contract via a third party company. He has given notice on his old contract and they have given him a PAC code. The new phone has arrived, not sure what to do next. Does he need to activate the new sim card with the new provider and then contact them with the PAC code? This is the first time he has wanted to keep his old number (never had one he could remember before!). Would be grateful for any advice.

Hi, yes, you're correct. He'll have to use the number on the new sim until the old one transfers over. I did it with 3 recently and it took about 48 hours, although I only found out through trial and error - they didn't text me to say it had been done!

    This is what you do.
Get the new SIM up and running.
Contact the new provider and start the number transferring process. This is when you need the PAC.
On the day of transfer the old SIM will stop working at some point.
Start using the new SIM now and it should start to work with the previous number.
It may take a couple of hours to fully transfer and for everything to work properly. If the new SIM is still not working on transfer restart the phone every so often until everything is working properly.
If for some reason the transfer did not work on the stated day contact your new provider and inform them of the issue.

Thank you for this. A good friend of mine is wanting to change networks and was asking me how long it'd take to port the number over; it's been some years since I've used a PAC and the timeframes have changed since then.
