We were on a flight to Alicante last Thursday which was delayed by almost an hour which meant that we were late to pick up our hire car and incurred a large fee due to the delay-is it worth me contacting Easyjet to complain and obviously be compensated

You will not receive anything from EasyJet and indeed 261/2004 only 'kicks in' after a 3 hour delay. Perhaps the thing to question is why use a hire car firm which charges extra if delay less than an hour - presume this was an off airport firm.
Complain to EJ by all means but doubt this will get you anywhere - maybe use a more reputable car hire firm in the future. Another post re EJ? ~ please use dedicated thread.0 -

It is doubtful that the 'large fee' you mentioned was actually due to the delay & not a deposit / CDW / other insurance premium that you were previously not aware of.
It's unheard of for a hire car company to charge an additional fee for a late collection of less than an hour - you're using their car for a shorter period after all. Also, there is often a significant time difference between the 1st & last passengers off a flight anyway by the time they've cleared customs, collected bags, found the right hire-car desk, waited in a queue etc...- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
SUCCESS THROUGH PERSEVERANCE.
Flight delays - Vauban's Guide has been of immense help - please read it before posting questions - I'll be surprised if your answers aren't in there.
April 2016 - successfully claimed €1600 from Thomas Cook for 6 hour delay in August 2015
Old debt passed to collection agency? Issue CCA request & possibly have debt rendered unenforceable. Feb 2021 - £42 of old debt legally written off & cost £1 per account.0 -

Does no-one here ever fly into small airports where the car hire desks "close" at a certain time and if you arrive at these times you have to use out of hours procedures, and incur out of hours pick up feesWeight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
Funnily enough, yes.
Got a 2.5 hour French atc delay going to Malaga 3 weeks ago. When we got through passport control we only had 30mins to get to the car hire company (via mini bus) before it closed.
Out of hours pick up incurs an extra charge of 40 euros so we caught the last train and picked the car up the next morning.
As regular hirers we know the rules, well most of them, and were prepared. 1st timers will be shocked by their tactics.
As 111KAB says, you won't get anything from the airline.
Just as a side note.
There are many rip off's. The car hire rules in Spain seem to change every year, it's about time the EU took control of the situation. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0
