Pre-exist condition travel insurance -

Hi All
I have tried all the companies to get insurance for a 1 week stay in New York in December... The lowest quote was £340....
My question is ... Does anyone know of an insurer that will allow you to exclude various selected conditions.
By this I mean that my quotes are so high because I obviously have to declare all conditions...
But most of these conditions will never reasonably be a risk ie.
Mild Asthma - had it for years, totally under control, never had a problem
I would be happy to have many conditions excluded from the policy, but I cant find a company that will let me do it....
Any suggestions would be gratefully received

So are you saying your only condition is mild asthma? If so, then why on earth is it so high?
My friend has asthma, R.A. and suffers from depression, and she is on about half a dozen types of medication. Her insurance to Eastern Canada for a week (a month ago,) was £43. (This was SWINTON.)
Where are they getting £340 from?!
Maybe try Swinton?cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -
my daughter paid £170 for a Caribbean cruise with able2travel , she has uncontrolled Epilepsy among other conditions. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

A couple of people at work with pre-existing have used Virgin Travel, it is underwritten by Insure & Go, of whom I've heard good and atrocious things.
I believe if you fly using Virgin you may get better rates.0 -
Thanks for the replies...
I have
Asthma - totally under control never a problem
Bronchiectasis - (get chest infections all the time) Travel with antibiotics - no problem
Hiatus hernia - no problem
Osteoporosis (brittle bones) - could be a problem so would want to be insured for this
And, have recently (3 months ago) had minor knee surgery - painful, But no prospect of it being a problem abroad....
Yes, I know i need putting down lol
But, the only thing I need realistically need to be insured for is osteoporosis the other things I am happy to exclude.
The problem is that I cant get any insurer to allow me to exclude the things that are extremely unlikely to ever be a problem0 -
I've just got insurance this past week with Staysure...They along with others wouldn't insure my pre-existing conditions so all have been excluded.. It cost me £79 for Mexico.
Edit: sorry meant to say that Staysure refused to exclude some would only exclude all.0 -
I don't know any policy which will let you include cover for some declarable conditions and exclude cover for others.
You may find that once the three month mark has passed from your knee surgery it might be cheaper.
Try moneysupermarkets travel insurance with medical conditions comparison tool if you haven't already.0 -
Many thanks for all the replies..
will try staysure.....0 -
The Coop gave me a good quote - I have a few different medical conditions which triggered high quotes elsewhere.[0

I have various pre-existing conditions although all now controlled and not requiring any recent hospitalisations or investigations (which I think makes a difference) - plus had pneumonia 8 years ago which all the insurers need to be disclosed even though it's fully resolved. I have found the following have been good on quotes (some better for certain destinations than the others but then vice versa for different destinations):
Justravelcover.com
Coverwise
Columbus Direct
The Explorer Travel Insurance
One of the potential problems with excluding conditions is that they may try to link a illness/issue to a particular excluded health condition and so won't pay in the event of a claim (and if that happens to be in the US you probably don't want that to be the case given the cost of treatment there)0 -
I have no idea how long I`ve spent getting quotes for pre-existing but I can tell you that you have to declare every little thing. I have had heart & arterial problems along with mild osteoarthritis. All under control but still have to declare any tablets etc. My wife is on list for cataracts doing which won`t affect holidays but still has to be declared. One point is that I tried all on-line sites (I mean ALL). Then I went through my bank & got better cover for £122 less for annual cover for a year, Europe, couple.0
