My biggest dream is to travel around the world on a boat. 99.999% that it will never happen, and there are so many reasons why: I don't have a boat, I never sailed in my life and my husband doesn't like it, but for some reason I keep dreaming of it. I close my eyes and feel the breeze and smell the seaweed and hear the waves..

I would like to live in a cottage or a farm and have a dog (like my youngest child asked me so many tomes) somewhere in Cumbria or other hilly place. Just to look at the sunset and listen to the birds... But if you live in a wild place how you survive if you are not rich? I guess you have to work then. But if it is a wild place than there is no jobs I presume? So it feels like another unrealistic dream so far.

Similar to mine it seems (see above)

You can learn to sail, and does he just not like the idea or has he done it before? (And I don't mean just a quick jaunt out of a harbour and back - I mean proper sailing - with the travel element added it might be his kind of thing)

On the other side though sailing, isn't all nice breezes and gentle waves. Sometimes the breeze becomes a storm and the waves grow to roughly house sized. Personally I want the whole nine yards - good and bad.
Know exactly what you mean about feeling the breeze, smelling the smells and so on though! :D

As for living in a wild place - if you can get the land on which to do so, you could grow much of your own food, trade for what you can't grow (basically a barter system) and if you really want to step back a couple of hundred years, forego things like electricity. Haha.
Work becomes growing stuff and maybe selling stuff locally.
Turn part of your house into a guest house - plenty of options.

Can't hurt to try and make either (or both?) of those dreams happen. :)

I would like to help my parents too jacks, as they have helped me financially in the past. I know my mum would love a holiday home in France and I would love to buy her one (or even pay for her to have a holiday in France!)

And I agree with wanting to have control over my life and not having banks dictate to me what I do!

They're probably the two most important reasons for me hon. I'm glad you feel the same. :A

    Love Jacks xxx :D

    Very similar to others:

    * I would lke to pay off my mortgage years ahead of schedule as I would like to work part-time and be home for dd and and future sprogs!

    * Love to be able to travel more around the world there is so much to see

    * Be a good role model for my dd instead of the shambles I am with money

    * Be comfortable in knowing that when I pop off no-one has to pick up the pieces of my debt.

    Sorry very morbid! :D

I would love to go on our first family holiday, before the kids are too old to want to come with us :o

Like many have already said, it would be nice not owing anyone anything and not feelin guilty about buying few luxuries. It would be nice to be able tothink that by the time I retire I dont have to worry about debt any more. Realises this makes me sound a bit sad, but I dont. Also we want to be able to get VW camper.

  • I want to be able to get somewhere of my own with my partner....living with the parents at 22 sucks, though living abroad for a year atm so not too bad.

but still, also would be lovely to treat my mum and dad, after all the hassle they've had...my dad is 54 and still hopping up and down ladders doing window cleaning, something he shouldn't have to do at his age!

  • Being debt free (and I mean REALLy debt-free i.e. no mortgage) means I will always have my house to live in and nobody can make me leave, I have the freedom to take a low-paid job if I want to and I am not answerable to anybody.

Going into the bank, asking how much I owed on my mortgage and writing out a cheque for that amount was one of the best days of my life.

Many common themes here, predominently thanking lovely parents and helping children in the future. I am no different, but mostly about taking control and setting a good example.

I know my parents are very proud of how hard I work and what I achieve, but they would be HORRIFIED if they knew what we owed. I never want them to have to worry about me at my age!
