I don't know, but if I hadn't done anything wrong, I'd be only too happy to help security. I'm not sure what there is to get stressed about being stopped. I'm not sure why people get so difficult about such things. We've all had an instance of being accused of something we haven't done, I'm sure.., showed it wasn't you or the evidence was wrong and moved on.

I don't know, but I wonder if they had an attitude because they were reacting to your attitude? I can kind of see that happening. I suspect that people who get wrapped up in their 'rights' to not be stopped create their own problem. If you don't protest loudly, etc, and just concentrate on sorting the error out.., situation is soon sorted.

And yes, vote with your feet and go elsewhere. Its not like there aren't plenty of other retail outfits to go to.., even for your daughter. If your daughter doesn't have enough empathy to understand her mother doesn't like 'that' shop, there's something going wrong there too.

When i was stopped, there was no polite request to stop and kindly show my bags etc I was accosted outside the shop by 2 intimidating and aggressive men, marched through the shop like a criminal with no explanation, verbally abused by one of the guys then was searched in a room at the back where there were about 5 people who clearly had been shoplifting. All without explanation or opportunity to ask what the hell was going on. I was very compliant and did what they asked to avoid making the situation worse, which included taking all my medical, personal and 'female products' out of my handbag in front of everyone. I'm not a precious person, but the uncertainty of the situation and Aggressive approach at the time created a nervous and anxious situation for me and yes I would chuckle too if the situation had been funny or lighthearted. I didn't accept any vouchers and will not pursue it as its not about the money, it's about making sure this doesn't happen to anyone else In future. Thanks for your Comments and perspectives!

It's not intended to be light hearted or jovial - it's intended to be unpleasant & something one would not wish to be repeated. Let me ask you this question, you do not want it to happen to anyone else in the future, but how then are you going to effectively secure a store which will be a reasonable risk for shoplifting? (by your own admission 5 others were "detained" along with you) If their mistake rate is 15% I'm pretty sure that the majority of retailers would gladly take that if it stops 5 would be thieves.

I get that it caused some anxiety, but surely beyond that anxiety there's a sensible person who knew they'd done nothing wrong & knew it was purely a matter of time before that's proven.

But probably not many that sell stuff as cheap as Primark do. ;)

As an honest person, I would be furious to be accused of something like this. I quite understand the OP's anger. I guess if I was stopped unjustifiably I would be as difficult as possible. These people have no right to search you and I would insist on the police being called. I, too, would expect a grovelling apology at the very least.

It really is time to move on as you are seeking something here that will never be offered, You want a complete overhaul of the security system in place and by the looks of things a lot more than £25.00 from one side and £50.00 from the other.

Life is far too short to worry about such trivial things like this and so what if you got stopped as they are only doing the job they are paid for and if they did believe you looked shifty then nothing you can do bar chalk this down to experience and move on with life.

There are also many other shops that you can go into these days and as for the campaign to get them to look into this further it is only stressing you out and will not be addressed any differently.

I understand that a job needs to be done and shops need to prevent theft and I realise mistakes are made, which I acknowledged in my letter of complaint, but my issue was with the heavy handed approach and the fact the stop was Illegal (as confirmed by the security company) because some over zealous guy on the end of a camera failed to follow a required 5 step procedure before stopping me. I have every right and responsibility to inform their employers about incompetent staff so that it doesn't happen to someone else!!

You were probably told this to try and appease you by the security Company as they were more than likely looking to close the complaint/complaints made.

Seriously you will not change a single thing here and have two choices as follows.

Move on and accept the vouchers from them.

Stay very unhappy a pursue a waste of time campaign with them that will just stress you out all the more and not change a single thing.

Again life is far too short so I suggest you get over it.
