Acer Laptop charger problem

I bought a replacement charger for my Acer Aspire 5741Z a couple of months ago, from eBay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181191522865
This week I've had a few problems with the charging.
I always unplug it from the laptop at night and reconnect again in the morning.
Sometimes it stops charging for no apparent reason.
Sometimes the charge and the one next to it and the one in the middle of the power button all flash together - Google suggested that I power off, remove the battery and hold the power button for 20 seconds to completely discharge the motherboard (?) - that seemed to work for 24 hours but it was flashing again tonight.
I unplugged the charger and the plug that goes into the laptop was very hot (couldn't touch it!).
In the time it has taken me to type this (not quickly!!) it has cooled to normal temperature.
I've just plugged it back in and it seems to be charging fine.
What's Up????

Output = 19V ~ 3.42A0 -

Further investigations lead me to suspect it's the laptop socket.
Just found a dell charger in a drawer:-
In = 100-240 ~ 1.5A
Out = 19v ~ 3.42A
It works, but only when the bottom of the 90 degree connector is pointing downwards
On my other (eBay) charger, that only worked with the 90 degree connector pointing up!
I spoke to the local computer shop in town who quoted £60 plus parts to do the job!
Good money after bad for a five year old laptop perhaps????
PS - can't get the Dell charger to connect at all now!
Other (eBay) charger in and currently working
EDIT - it now won't charge at all0 -
I've found with Acer the hardware such as charging ports and hinges fail or wear badly after 3 years.0

It sounds like the charging socket its self has come away from the motherboard slightly.
This is a common fault on a lot of laptops, especially if the cord has been "ripped" out of the back a few times (kids running past etc) ..
Your local IT shop may be able to re-run the solder but ultimately a new motherboard would be a permanent fix0 -

But would both of the above lead me to think that a better option would be to 'treat myself' to something new ??0 -
that would be around 150 times the cost of the part, which (as shown by the photo's in your other thread) isn't soldered to the motherboard
Moving parts fail or wear excessively through misuse, irrespective of brand.
take the battery out, and use the correct power supplyDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

It won't work at all that way0
