Help please - interior oak doors

We are having interior worcester oak doors fitted. One has been fitted today. The doors are pre finished. The fitted doir has the rough edge on the outside where the latch is and the pre finished edge has been put where the hinges are on the inside. Surely it should be the pre finished edge on the outside??? Does anybody know please. The carpenter spent ages putting this doir up and carefully drilling in the parts. Im terrified I might have to tell him now that its wrong.
Thank you

That does not sound right to me.

I would of thought you would have the finished edge on the outside edge of the door as it will be on view when the door is open.
  • Their website states.

Real Oak Lipping allowing for 6mm to be trimmed off all edges of the door.

Are you sure it hasn't been trimmed to fit?

    Poppyoscar thats what I thought.

Silversurfer is it common for them to have to be trimmed to fit. Could it be that it isn't until the door has been hung that you can see that it needs to be trimmed to fit? And then hes had to take it down and trimmed it?
  • It's not uncommon to need to trim or plane then to fit.

Measure the lock and hinge stile, are they equal in width or less than the unhung ones?

We fitted 19 doors when we built our house. Our doorways were the standard size and doors ordered were the standard size to fit those doorways.

We did not need to trim any of them on the side edges only at the bottom because of carpet etc.

The door will of been planed down to fit. I have been hanging doors for over 20 years, I would say 95% need planing when fitting into original openings.

Leading edge ie lock side is usually planed to achieve a good fit .You need to seal the planed edge ,rub down when dry then seal again with varnish

Maybe not varnish. Check with manufacturer what it's already been finished with, it may be oiled or a hard wax oil finish.
