solicitor complaint

My house purchase is getting more complicated every day since last week. Meant to exchange and complete on the same day last week which fell through due to someone in the chain didn't do their home work. All agree to exchange and complete on Tuesday next week...but...
now my solicitor messed it up..he didn't request the money in time from the lender. The earliest we can complete now is Thursday. I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks, flying on Thursday.
I don't want to delay the completion until I come back as I don't think other on the chain will be happy about it. If I cancel my holiday I will loose the 5k I paid for and my annual leave from work.
What should I do?

Not book a holiday when you're moving home? - I mean that's just common sense stuff.
Complain if you wish, but I doubt you'd be entitled to anything0 -
All agree to exchange and complete on Tuesday next week
So before "all" agreed did anyone check there would be enough time to get money from mortgage lender?
When you are going to move it is not a good diea tio book a holiday anywhere near possible completion dates - allowing a very wide margin for delays!RICHARD WEBSTER
As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.0 -
Don't you have staff who could move your belongings for you when you are away?? No need to be in the country to complete..
AFAIK you have no valid grounds for complaint, except perhaps against yourself for the 'ole which you dropped yourself in.
These learning experiences are so valuable in the end, once one gets over the initial - later to be regretted - reaction.0 -

Move your belongings to storage the day before you go, move them into the new place when you come back?0

Give your solicitor a standing instruction to exchange so they inability to get hold of you next week doesn't affect exchange. Completion date for after you return. Unfortunately the kind of hiccups you have stated are not uncommon.0

We've been trying to complete for a long time. Couple of people in the chain is affected by the new stamp duty so I assumed they must do everything to complete before the 1st of April and that was mentioned as a condition on the memorandum of sale from the estate agent. I'm going to a family wedding so all my family is going to be out of the country too leaving no one to move my stuff.Richard_Webster wrote: »So before "all" agreed did anyone check there would be enough time to get money from
Exchange and completion on the same day is due to someone else in the chain.0 -

My solicitor agreed to the date then few days later he realised about the the notice.
Exchange and completion on the same day is due to someone else in the chain.
Well then move out early and ensure all paperwork is completed before you go.0 -
All your stuff in storage, all paperwork completed. Jet out on holiday, move in on your return.
It's the cheapest and probably only viable option you have.
Best get cracking rather than pontificating over blaming your solicitor.0 -
Thank you for all your replies. All paper work completed, moved out, things are in storage and ready to go on holiday tomorrow.
Completion tomorrow but find out from lender today that they are not aware of the new completion date or receive the COT from my solicitor to release the funds. Spoke to my solicitor's director who said they sent it last week...well their system says so. Don't they suppose to check with the lender after they request the funds? He sent it again this morning. Not sure what is going to happen tomorrow.0
