O/S Daily Friday 8 April 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now getting light, light cloud, hoping it’s going to be a generally dry and brighter day, we’ll see. Put washing on the line yesterday and had to get it in after a short time as it started to rain, the rain wasn’t forecast until the afternoon. Would like to get some washing on the line today.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit as he’s on school hols.

Dinner last night was Spanish chicken, potato dauphinoise, peas and mushrooms, 1 portion of potato left in the fridge. Tonight will be breaded chicken, chips and beans, omelette and salad for me.

I was reasonably productive yesterday, I got all the ironing done that was dry enough, there is still some washing/drying so will continue with that. Hoover did get shoved round but quickly, I should have some spare time this morning to do some chores, I’ll be heading to the SM first thing to do the food shopping, then I have nail appointment at lunchtime, so will visit the building society/bank when I go for nail appointment. DS2 has to go into school for a revision class, so he’ll come home early afternoon.

If I get chance I want to do some baking/cooking too, so plenty to occupy me.
Keep safe and well x

Hello, day off today but am going to work mostly because a friend retires today and we have worked together on and off for over 30 years, so will be sad to see her go, though we are friends and hopefully will see each other though not as often. Also can finish some jobs that I didn't manage yesterday.
I have a load of towels ready for the washing line, it looks a bit gloomy though, probably will get a little bit drier than they are now.
Looking forward to the weekend as this has been a very full on week, and the next few weeks are set to be similar.
Love to those who could use a little extra support,
Elona, great news for your DD

    Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off, and thank you all so much for your thoughts and good wishes.

Himself is home from hospital, but only on condition he attends hospital each morning to have an intravenous diuretic administered. My poor husband was carrying an extra 5 stone in fluid because of the heart failure. Up to yesterday he had lost very nearly 2 stone, and hopeful for more today.

He is tired, exhausted and a little confused because our routine is nothing like it usually is. He is also very emotional, but we are assured the illness can be managed, but that he must never let it become so advanced again.

Everyone at the hospital have been marvellous, such caring and knowledgeable doctors and nurses and are looking after us very well.

I have only just skimmed the thread, but I wanted to send hugs to Judi, Gers, I think you should be home today, and Mr TA.hope everything went well.

Hester sorry the weather isn't good, you are not that far away from us. We had torrential rain yesterday afternoon after we returned from hospital

Lyn so pleased you had a good holiday, did you receive my pm?

Dumpling I am so sorry the trip didn't go well, I know you didn't really want to go, it must take a lot of courage on your part to do something you know will be so stressful.

Have a good day all, ad weekend if I don't get back

    Much love

    Candlelightx

PS Pollyanna, I took your advice and bought him a V pillow and he loves it. He isn't able to lie flat yet and this has helped enormously, thank you so much x

Candlelight - it's so lovely to hear such good news about your OH. He's bound to improve now the condition has been identified. Daily hospital visits are a small price to pay.

Well, this is my last afternoon here. It's almost 4pm and my flight is at 11pm. We've packed in two eating sessions with different family members: a prolonged breakfast with four others and then a light lunch with my neice.

It's been a bright sunny day here so leaving the heat of a Melbourne Autumn for cold of a UK Spring is most unwelcome.

Hugs to those who need them just now.

    Happy Friday.

    Good morning everyone

Candlelight, it is so good to hear your DH is on the mend. He must feel so much better getting that much water weight off him. Hopefully the rest will disappear too over the next little while and he will feel like a new man. Sending you a hug and a thank you for being so understanding of my problems too. That last sentence applies to all of you lovely people on here, I honestly am so grateful.

I woke up just as my hubby left but I feel very tired as I didn't sleep too well again. Never mind, I am very fortunate in that I can go back to bed later on and catch up on some zzzzzzz's. The girls are still fast asleep, they were up late playing Minecraft on their Xbox so I don't expect to see them until lunchtime.

I have a Tesco delivery arranged for this morning but as we are still eating up the contents of the freezers I haven't spent half of what I used to. I nearly fell hard off the diet wagon but managed to stay put. I did put lots of lovely fattening things in my virtual trolley but came to my senses and cancelled them.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all. Thanks again NMLC for starting us off.

CANDELIGHT so pleased to see you posting again. I was feeling a bit worried at no news. Seems everything is going in the right direction, albeit slowly. Your poor DH is really going through the mill just now. x

All went well at St James yesterday, when we eventually got there!! The bus from the station was on a detour route because of road works and when it dropped us we hadn't a clue where we were! We ended up in the wrong wing of the hospital really far from where we wanted to be, Mr TA almost fell down some stone steps (his legs are so weak), my dodgy hip was giving me grief and when we finally got the Oncology suite (10 mins late) we hobbled in like a couple of ancients and collapsed in the waiting room! Not such a long wait to be seen this time as clinic was very quiet for a change. All went well and injection given. Then straight to the hosp restaurant where Mr TA enjoyed his Chicken Curry, rice & naan and I had my salad!

It's a lovely start to the day here, hope it lasts. Makes a change to see blue sky and sun! The Friday clean in store for today - such excitement! If the weather stays like this I might get out in the garden later and tidy up a bit more. The poor daffs are looking past their best now, much like me! It's always a sad sight when they die back.

GERS and JUDI should both be heading home today, safe journey to you both. (((HUGS))) to all all else in need, so many just now. Take care all xxx

Candlelight, that is good news, hopefully your DH will continue to lose the extra fluid. TA, good to know you had a shorter wait this time.
Dumpling, I think you have hit on a great idea, fill a virtual trolley with treats and then swap them for healthy, OS stuff, allowing you to glow with virtue and be healthy, good plan!
Still grey and gloom ridden here, humph.

4 degrees here again this morning, brrrr.
Hubby is in the shower, I'm cooking breakfast, hopefully I'll be warm enough to take my coat off by then.
Glad you have some good news candlelight, take care of yourself too.
It's the last full day of our holiday today, tomorrow I will hopefully be sleeping in my own bed and not on a bench.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone,

I've read the thread and I hope you all have a nice day.

Today is my day off. I'm about to take DS to school and me and DD will spend the day together, tidying the house and doing laundry - which will hang on the washing line.

I may try some baking today.

    Morning everyone,

Dull and misty here but am hopeful it will clear away and let us have some sun.

Candlelight, so pleased to hear that Mr C is home and feeling slightly better. My DM had horrendously swollen legs last year due to her lack of lymph glands, luckily the doc managed to find her the right kind of medication and they literally went down over a day or so. It's meant her mobility is much improved which has improved her mental state no end.

TA, glad the hospital appointment went well after such a dodgy start, well done on the salad after all that trauma :)
Gers and Judi, safe journey to both of you x

Off to BuryStEd this morning, will have a wander round and check out a couple of CS's. Off to see Bill this afternoon, looks like the original consignment of his new supplement got lost in dispatch but have been promised new lot for tomorrow. Am not riding him at the moment due to his lameness and must admit am really missing it, think will have to start making enquiries to see if anyone wants their horse exercised for free.
Had a good chat with work yesterday and have managed to change my hours to suit me more :j from May will be doing four mornings a week, 8.30 to 2pm, so will be home those days by 2.30 at the latest, am really pleased and will make the time there far more bearable.

Anyways, tea to drink and the day to start. Love to all and have a good day folks x

TravellingAbuela I bet you were glad to get home!

I was told dogs often get sick on car journeys when they're young - can't remember exactly but something to do with their ears and balance – and most grow out of it. He's 20 months now and it's still happening. He's much better in the van, there are only front seats and the back is blocked off so the space inside is smaller. He must feel a bit more secure in a smaller space so I've bought a canvas crate. It's in the lounge at the moment, I put it together and said 'ooooh look, a tent for you', 'look at your lovely tent' etc. This carried on for a while and then later on I asked him where his tent was, he trotted over and got in :D He's put a toy in it, I'm hoping he'll lie in it occasionally (if not, I'll bribe him!) and when he's used to it I'll put it in the car and see how he gets on.

It's cold here this morning, I've put the heating on but the bathroom is cold, hopefully the towel rail will be fitted today. Both the man-trus are off work so they're going to get some DIY done, I'm expecting arguments. Those two should not work together :D Not sure what I'm doing today, it depends on how much mess is made and how high the stress levels are in the house :D
