AA 0% Credit Card application - would not recommend

I have been Stoozing since 2008 thanks to MSE :T which has been a great benefit over the years.
In short - Would not recommend if you wanted a quick decision (applied 6 wks ago and still waiting)
I applied online in Feb 2016, did not receive any communication to confirm. I had to call to follow up after 7+ working days to find my application had been referred and a letter had been sent out to to me. 10+ working days I received their letter requesting further information to confirm my identity and credit status which had to be validated. I complied by producing the information and paid for them to be validated (there is a specific list). 7+ working days passed I called again to follow up and told they have received but unable to proceed as one of the docs I sent they did not recognise (I challenged and they accepted HMRC!) the other was because the person did not sign all sides of a 3 page doc - ridiculous (they had signed the first and last page) and a letter had been sent to tell me this. I resent via post 24th March the required information and had it validated again. Not received any communication I called on 2nd April to check if received second docs to be told - no they have not:mad:
They said this is due to a backlog post - I challenged this and the Team leader agreed with my points and encouraged me to make a complaint.
I received a call from AA this morning to say they still have not received and may of got lost in the post - now I was fuming to be told this as I had posted other docs on the same day in the same place and the others had arrived at their destination. I was given the option to either cancel my application, leave my application open just in case my docs may appear or resend docs via post again and make another complaint.
I decided to leave my application open (for now) but make another complaint.
My opinion AA should not be selling a product where their processes and procedures are not fit for purpose. Poor customer service, not able to scan docs securely etc
Will keep you posted

That sounds like the exact same story of my application process, Bank of Ireland are the ones behind the card. I made a complaint and am now waiting my compensation mainly the refund of the certifying documents, 3 lots and the days spent sorting it out, 5 months later after all that they still declined my application.
Many posts on the credit card board of similar issues which to be fair has some success stories, seems if you can get an automatic acceptance your on a winner but if referred then yours and My story are the norm.

There are bunch of incompetent people working outthere.
Here is the discussion about that.

They have an offical reps here but do not waste your time dealing with them. They will provide a generic response. All they will ask you to do is to send a message to their team, chatting, etc.0 -
I did not have any issues with my application, it went through very quickly and the balance has transferred ok. This was only about 3-4 weeks ago though so maybe they have sorted their processes out a bit.0

I have just applied, had to send off countersigned photocopy of ID document such as Passport or driving license, and 3 other forms of proof of ID, paycheck, bank statement etc. Waiting to hear back from them. I applied for quite a few cards and the AA one is by far the most hassle. I would not bother with them unless it was a card you really wanted. What sort of limits are people getting offered by them?0

If you notice the wording when they requested the draconian certified portfolio of evidence, there is not any guarantee that you will get it.
Generally, many institutions will only ask this kind of tremendous paperwork’s in the very last stage and it is put as a condition.
So people in this situation might find although have put a lot of efforts they might still find themselves got rejected.0 -
Just to resurrect this thread....
Are people still finding AA to be a hassle, or would anyone recommend them now?
Are they still 'funny' about balance transfers AWAY from themselves, once the 0% deal finishes (understand there were some issues with Halifax) Assume they are OK with all transfers IN.
I have approx £5000 that i want to transfer somewhere once current deals expire. Could pay it off if i needed to, but i'd rather the money stay sitting our High Interest accounts!!!
ThanksHow's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

I have not read anyone post about his/her experience regarding this. I think the best thing you could do is to test it. Try to do faster a small amount of £1 (say) faster payment to AA creditcard and see how this payment is getting on.0 -
Sorry if i didn't make myself clear...
I'm thinking of applying for an AA Card, but have read about them being very slow, needing LOTS of paperwork, and then not being able to do balance transfer away from them when the time comes (due to them being Bank of Ireland)
It's an oldish thread, and was interested if peoples experiences have changed. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

This is about the organisational culture and people working in BOI which issue the AA, Post Office creditcard. As you might already aware it will take ages to change this. The oddy requirement for the certification of copy is still there. The wording when they requested the draconian certified portfolio of evidence is still as arrogant as it used to be e.g there is not any guarantee that you will get the card. Generally, many institutions will only ask this kind of draconian paperwork’s in the very last stage and it is put as a condition.
It is up to you if you want to take your chance. Some people are required to send this ridiculous paper work, some are not.
It is a zero fee for BT so it might be worthy if you could get a good credit limit. But at the same time if you get declined or required to produce draconian paper work, it will cost you a credit search.
They are not the best, so the more sensible aproach is that to try the best one from here first

Total nightmare. Only use them as a last resort. If there are other similar card options available to you then I would use them.0
