I've got Fibre Broadband (from John Lewis) and I don't think I need it for what I do on line.
Can I simply change back to ordinary broadband or is there anything to watch out for? I am out of contract

lots of questions , how fast was your fibre connection , what are alternative companies stating your "suggested" speed will be on a ADSL line
# jump from 38 meg to 18 meg will not hurt you , but a jump from 38meg to 2meg will!Save a Rachael

Seems like a sensible question. I guess if you are out of contract it'll be fine, though you'll probably need to commit to a new contract.
Just make sure you'll get an acceptable speed. I get 12mb on adsl at the moment and can't see the point in paying extra for fibre.0 -
Don't most ISP's make you pay a connection charge for upgrade to fibre from ADSL?
If it's reversed is there an extra charge, especially if you move ISP at the same time?0 -
Some helpful replies here, thank you.
I have checked the speed I am getting - 26.84 download, 1.8 upload, 125ms ping
That looks good compared to the estimated speed from Uswitch of 3Mb (up to 17 in theory) - I guess I would certainly notice the difference even though we only rarely use it for iplayer and the rest of the time it is just browsing and emails etc
I was just thinking the price was creeping up (letter in today from John Lewis) £22.50 for fibre broadband, £15.50 line rental - but looking at these speeds I guess just grin and bear it
Many thanksDownshifted

Switch provider? With topcashback/prepaid cards, BT Infinity can be had for pretty much nothing for a year0

So call JL (in reality, it's Plusnet) and cut a retention deal. No need to pay the rack rate if you are now out of minimum term, you hold all the cards. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
