Barratt Homes - Swallow Fields - anyone bought?

It depends on the family size, but yes. I was very happy with two large doubles and a small third when I lived on my own, and when living with my partner.
I would not have wanted two larger bedrooms, or three smaller bedrooms.
Well plenty out there to choose from
I appreciate we all want different things in a layout. There are just so many still built with 2 doubles and a single and I find it hard to believe it's what families really would opt for if they were given more choice.0 -

Sometimes they may not have a choice when it comes to their pricing range"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Hi Alice,
I am trying to buy a property on that development also! Currently having little luck with the extensive waiting list!
I'm a first time buyer. Can I ask how you managed to get a property there? Lol!
Thank you!0 -
Hello, I know this is an old thread but thought I'll give it a shot and reach out anyway. We are also into Swallow Fields in HH and have made a reservation. Can you share any insight on your experince with the development and the general area to date? We are a quite excited at the prospect of moving on from our outgrown flat in London but also very anxious as we don't know the area at all.
Thanks!!0 -
Your all forgetting the often poor quality of the major new build developers, Taylor Wimpey, persimmon to name a few.
New like a car comes at a cost and your home will be worth less as soon as you open the door for the first year at least.
I understand your sentiment - and agree. Poor quality and Barratts are synonymous. Your comparison with a new car isn't great though as in general a new car is built to a great standard and the manufacturer doesn't EXPECT you back in a month with 3 A4 sheets with all the problems with a new car. You're terribly unlucky to get a new car with faults. You're almost impossibly lucky to get a new house without faults.0 -
I just realised I drove past this development last week and thought "odd place to put new homes" as it's right on top of a huge industrial area.
There's an enormous Gist depot opposite but to be fair the lorries won't be driving past as there's a width restriction on three cherries lane. If I was buying there I'd stake it out at night to see how busy/noisy that depot is though.
Also that road is busy - a rat run in the mornings. The journey to the town centre will take 10-20 mins by bus at busy times. Not really walkable either. No idea of the local shops but there will be plenty of sandwich/burger outlets to keep the people of Maylands fed.
There's an Aldi probably 5 min drive away.0 -

Not all.new builds are built equal. We recently bought a newish new build. Originally we said no to new builds as we'd viewed a couple and the rooms were too small. We soon realised there's a hierarchy of 4 bed new builds. They can be broken into 4 types:
Separate garage, large downstairs and good sized bedrooms.
Separate garage, decent downstairs, smaller bedrooms.
Integral garage, decent downstairs and good sized bedrooms
Integral garage, a porch rather than a hallway downstairs, pokey bedrooms.
The last type is almost always the one where the owner has converted the garage into a bedroom or "family room".
As for the benefits:
Cheaper to.run, generally well built, everyone is typically in the same situation so making friends is easy, usually good amenities.
Our one is ten minutes walk from Tesco, Aldi, Subway etc and the community centre, library, school and church. It's a 15-20 minute walk to the dentist and GP.0
