Hi cjj....
I think mhoc might be the one to get deals on hotels....she pointed me in the direction of accor hotels when we needed a stay in Manchester...if you sign up to their privilege club you can book reduced rates for the following weekend if you book on a monday or tuesday I believe...that might be worth a look...
I think once you register with them the deal is called happy mondays or something similar...but we were able to get weekend stays in Manchester city centre for around £40 a room
sorry I cant help with a particular recommendation ...stayed in liverpool years ago really cheaply on a deal with moat houses I think ...but the hotel has long since been demolished...shame because it was quite central too.
Yes - one idea would be to find the hotel you want at an OK price and go through booking.com - make sure its a cancellable room.
I've logged on at just past midnight to make sure I could get a York room the sunday/Monday before we had our York weekend last September.
Then if something does come up on Accor happy Mondays then you can book it and cancel your original booking.
I think there are a few good Accors hotel in Liverpool
or try Travelodge - my eldest and her BF had their anniversary weekend there a few years ago and TL is in a really good spot (in their early days before they became affluent bright young things who would settle for nothing less than 4 *)
it also depends wether you are going to Liverpool by train or in the car - train is very easy. I don't know what the parking situation is like in Liverpool, probably as bad as nay other city“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Not sure if you need anymore and if it's a viable purchase based on it's Birmingham location
