We don't have them but will consider them when they manage to produce decent batteries to go with them. Also I have heard that they can decrease the value of the house they are on, don't know why though.

I think it may be if you don't own the panels and the roof space is in effect rented out for them, although my hairdresser recently sold her house that she had allowed company to put them on. When I see her next will ask if she had any problems selling.

Thanks anyway tweets, congrats on the weight loss.

Thanks mrsmac, i've read the blurb online, but it's better to get advice from someone who actually has them.

I've got a flat roof that could be fitted out with panels, i'm trying to offset my electric costs.

Also toying with the the idea of getting rid of the gas bill by installing a range.

We have solar panels and paid £10000 for them.(3 bed detached) We got them just before the government dropped the rate they pay you, so the panels were expensive. I'm not sure of the current rate but i think we get about 40p per unit.
We get just over £1100 a year from the electricity we make and have had a reduction by £20 a month on our electric bill. (£70 a month)

Does anyone have solar panels ?

    Are they cost effective ?

    TIA

Wish we had got them when they first came out. OH is against because they would need to go on the front of the house and he thinks that the house is too old for modern panels on it.

depends whether you buy the panels or get them for free. Buying is meant to be better. The payments you get back are lower than they used to be but the price of the panels has come down, so it should still pay.

Plenty of help on the renewables board.

Hi frequent I have mentioned this before. We have them all across the back of our house. They were freeeeeeeee. Basically the company rent our roof for a percentage of free electricity for us and they keep the rest.

We do notice cheaper bills but not in the Winter as such lol.
They maintain them and if anything goes wrong the fix them. The panels don't bother us on the roof and protects the tiles so it's a win win situation really .
We don't have them but will consider them when they manage to produce decent batteries to go with them. Also I have heard that they can decrease the value of the house they are on, don't know why though.

There can be issues on selling your house with the free ones as the panels aren't yours but you have given away the rights to rent your roof. I think that the area has now been regulated so you need to make sure that the company you use has signed up to the mortgage rules.

Theory is that the money you get back from selling the electricity generated is better than the savings interest you could get from a bank plus you get free electric when the sum shines.

I remember years ago people running their appliances at night to use cheap electric, now people run them when the sun shines. A friend only puts her dryer on when the sun is shining so much that she should be using her washing line!
