He cancelled his insurance, no doubt he'll be chasing the tax refund. He's taken out a new insurance using the previous no claims. There's enough reasonable doubt about him being the keeper.

Well I think we've gotten out of hand enough don't you?
All I wanted to know was to how to deal with the situation at hand. Easy to sit & say should've done XYZ but need to deal with the present.
Thanks to those who helped on that.0 -
One thing that hasn't been asked (or it may have been, just that I've missed it).
How was the car paid for?
If it was by cheque or bank transfer then you will be able to get the name of the buyer from that.
It was probably a cash payment but I just thought that I'd check.0 -
The car was only £250 so he paid cash.0

You got his phone number? Drop him a text saying you've found some old service history docs and if he gives you his address again you'll post them down.0

Could be done after setting off the GATSO.0 -
do your V5 notification online. I sold my car Friday midday, notified sale via .gov website straight after and got a refund cheque yesterday. In this instance I have nothing but praise for the efficiency of the system.0

All you can do is reply to the notice, confirming that you were not the driver, with details of when you sold the car, and giving whatever information you have about the buyer.
But don't expect that to be accepted without some further investigation taking place. First thing that will be looked at are the insurance details.0
