Blimey it's a cold most workers go into work with colds....You are job seeking which can for a couple of days be done at home in the warm in your pj's if you think your that I'll?
I would say those people are irresponsible to go to work while being sick, not only are they more inefficient (and costing their work places more money) but they also they risk transmitting their illness to other people. However, that's not what my topic is about. I am only wanting to use the periods of illness I got a legal right to use.

I think my employer would have plenty to say if I took time off everytime I had a cold.

Why does how many periods of sickness you have a "legal right" to take matter?

You are aware that sickness is not the same as annual leave, it's not something you must (or should, if possible) use? You're only entitled to be excused due to sickness if you are actually too sick to seek work.

To be fair I think that's news to a lot of folk...

The jobseeking period (JSP) starts on the first day you claimed jobseekers allowance, and includes all periods of jobseeking separated by 12 weeks or less. So if you started claiming on 1/1/15, and signed off on 1/7/15 that JSP was from 1/1/15-30/6/15. If you then reclaimed on 1/9/15 the two periods would 'link' and therefore the start of your JSP would still be 1/1/15, and any periods of sickness since 1/1/15 would be counted. The 12 month rolling period starts on the date you first declared sickness. However if you didn't reclaim until for example, 3/10/15, the periods would not link, so the first day of your current JSP would be 3/10/15. In this instance any periods of sickness during the first JSP would not be counted if sickness is then declared during the current JSP
When people ask me "What do you do?"
I tell them "Whatever it takes."
