Car seized for no insurance

Seems like it has been a really bad week for "Call me Dave", what with the fuss about his off shore investments and now this.0

The main insured missed a payment so the insurance was cancelled Friday midnight.
Normally given you pay in advance insurance companies give plenty of warning before cancelling a policy for a missed payment
So either more then one payment was missed or that the letters and calls were ignored.0 -

Just to clarify, the main insured did receive a written notice for missing the payment and that insurance would be cancelled; Dave did not know this. The insurance was cancelled at midnight friday and main insured called the insurers on Sat to make payment and put things right. Obviously the insurance co. did not update the police database even after receiving the payment; they said it was weekend and payment did not get cleared. Oh yes, right! Bacs payments take seconds these days and there is no 3 day clearing period anymore.
I believe Dave had a bit of an argument with the main insured after the car seizure and decided to go his own way; thats why he got his own insurance on Monday. I suspect he did not tell the new insurance about the seizure.
As far as I know when people go back to police to reclaim their seized vehicles, their docs are checked against the databases. It is unusual for the police to ring up the insurance company and spill the beans fully. It is not wrong to do so but its not in their remit. They probably did it to make life hard for Dave; like they do.0
