PC World/Currys HDMI Lead

I'm amazed you've asked that.
Even the merest iota of common sense would tell you that if your JOB is to sell products which, by their nature, use different connections and termination standards, you should probably ensure that you check that any cables or accessories you're suggesting your customer buys, are compatible with the device you're suggesting they use them with... You ARE claiming to be the expert in that transaction, after all.
-sigh- It's not rocket science...
My old employer pretty much had a script for the checkout operators.
Someone would come in and buy a £1k lawnmower and then be asked if theyd like 3 sponges for a £1.
Probably should go for a brew, cant imagine youve had time to calm down since your ordeal.
And to be fair to the girl, she probably doesnt know what a scart is nobody has used them since the 90's. Out of the OPs experience the thing im suprised most at is that you can buy a new DVD player that doesnt have an HDMI port on it in 2016.0 -
Bought a printer cable at PC World £15.
Identical Printer Cable from CPC online was £1.25.
Any Computer items I now buy from them and they are usually free delivery.0 -

Following the indignance of some posters above, I'd add/restate that the OP ordered the thing online, it came into the store in a box, which presumably went unopened, so again - why would you expect someone picking a box out of the back room to be intimately familiar with the content of it? Since it was ordered online, it may not have been a regular stock item for the store.
Someone said the connections 'should be shown on the box' - I've bought loads of electronics kit over the years, very little of which has these details on the box - in the user manual, maybe... but if the store clerk had stopped to look at all sides of the box, we'd probably find the OP complaining that the sale took too long, and he wanted to be on his way quicker, etc etc
I think the store clerk is being unfairly pilloried here.0 -

It was actually instore when I ordered it, I could have picked it up within minutes.
I only ordered it online to save me the hassle of looking for it instore.Out of the OPs experience the thing I'm surprised most at is that you can buy a new DVD player that doesn't have an HDMI port on it in 2016.

He didn't say he didn't believe you, only that he was surprised (as was I) that there were still AV products that didn't have HDMI.
I also think it's unrealistic for someone to expect someone working the tills to know the specifications of all the 1000's of different items they sell.
It was probably just asked out of habit due to the instructions of management.0 -
I didn't actually think you could get "DVD" players anymore, I thought they were all Blu Ray now anyway.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £30,358.130

This I agree with but with the caveat that if one doesn't know what the item has in the way of connection or what the item does, then they shouldn't be trying to flog items that are related/not related to them.0 -

I'm surprised that the OP wasn't buying a VHS player, what with no Blu-ray or HDMI... Sheesh.0
