Driving lessons - North Birmingham

I am 44, have done driving lessons when I was 19 (it was just before the theory test came into force), failed my test & didn't continue with it. I am very nervous & to be honest didn't enjoy it, couldn't get my head around the gears.
I am at a point in my life where I want to find a new job, have spend my life travelling to work on public transport. My current job is round the corner from where I live....but I hate it there & want to find something else. Not being able to drive limits my choices & if the job I'm applying for is accessible on public transport.
Can anyone recommend driving schools that cover north Birmingham (Great Barr, Sutton Coldfield). I was thinking about going automatic instead of manual, but if I were to pass & hubby & I car share, then that would limit the choices, but I really couldn't handle the gears the last time.
Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations on who to go with & how to get over my nerves please?

Just to note - You've got that wrong. You would have been 24 when the theory test was introduced in 1996.0 -

If you want to nit pick, then Ok it was about 5 years before the theory test was introduced. Couldn't remember, but I knew it was introduced after I done my test.

My intention wasn't to 'nitpick', merely to re-align your internal clock, as I didn't think 5 years was 'just before'.

Thanks.
Now onto the original reason why I posted......How do people cope with nerves?
At the moment I feel like not being able to drive is an "affliction" & am tired of people telling "you won't be able to do it".Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £16,797.770 -

I'm afraid when it comes to it, you just have to get on with it. Nervousness about doing something new is normal, but with practice it should diminish and confidence should come.
Its all about transitioning from conscious incompetence to unconscious competence, basically.0 -

You'll be fine, a quick trip along the Queslett Road from Kingstanding to the Scotts when the car cruisers are out and about and you wont have any left.:)0 -
