makro having big sale :)

  • I have never found Makro to be competitive, most food items are cheaper in Asda and the electical goods always seem to be over priced. An LCD TV that you could buy in Argos for example at £399 inc VAT is often £399+VAT in Makro. I don't even bother going there any more.

I agree Makro are overpriced for most things, but when there is a Makro mail offer for meat there are often bargains: Lamb for 3.99 (I think its a kilo) when Tesco had lamb supposedly on offer for 5.99. If you buy big lumps of beef and saw it into joint sizes that also works out good value usually. And its lovely quality.
  • I tend to bu only things that are in the Makro Mail (Their fortnightly offers newsletter), but always do a quick lookup on the Tesco's pricecheck site to confirm the bargain is as good as it looks.

You can access the Makro Mail online to see if it's worth joining

I got the new Philips 3480 DVDR a couple of weeks ago for £69.99 + VAT (£82), it's £100 at Argos, £106 at Amazon and Kelkoo's cheapest price was £90.

I also love Makro because I can buy boxes of white mice to give the folks at work a wee treat now and then.

    Cheers

  • Makro in Leeds is best avoided, you have to put a £1 in the trolley and keep it with you all round the store in case someone runs off with it. Most Makro Mail items either never existed or out of stock and these are the only items worth buying.
Then you have to queue for ages at the tills, their checkout system is without doubt the worst I have come across, then queue again to let someone search through your trolley making sure the reciept tallies with the goods.
On the whole the assistants are unhelpful at best and the whole performance drives me up the wall, like I say best avoided.

rayleigh is a nightmare as they tend not to have the deals on display and then a few days after the offers finish the shelves are full of the stock that should have been on the shelves for the deals.
rayleigh also use the pound in the trolley system and havent thought about other people nicking the trolley whist im browsing.

we dont have queues to get out through checkout and receipt clearance as they are all pretty clued up

have been as far as Ipswich to get shower screen, thermostatic shower, and taps that was on offer last year saving me 70 quid on the shower screen alone so it was worth the petrol up there.

  • i agree with all of you about the expense of makro but you two mention £1 for a trolly ~ come on... you do the same in asda/morrisons/tesco (do you not ) I personally only really shop in makro for toilet rolls/washing powder/staff shopping night. 99% of the things in makro can be brought cheaper (mainly online)

what really annoys me is when customers seem to think its fine to push their trolleys into my canteen/public toliets because its thier trolley as its thier pound ~ yes it is your £1 but until you money is in the till the contents belongs to makro. you dont push your trolley into the cafe at asda right next to your table do you  so why seem to think its 'ok' in a wholesale store
