O/S Daily Tuesday 5 April 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now getting light, damp underfoot, but it has stopped raining, yesterday was miserable with several spells of going really dark and then heavy downpours, loads of laying water but no frost.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit as he’s on school hols.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, ice cream or treats from the tin for dessert. Tonight we’ll be having tortellini/ravoli in mushroom sauce/creamy tomato sauce with a chicken portion.

Work yesterday was as manic as expected, arrived at work to find one of the machine’s not working, there’d been a problem with it on Friday and it still wasn’t working, although we rang the help desk and they did some fixing remotely and we then re-established the settings our end and it worked for a while. The whole issue is that the machines are just not manufactured to be used in the way they need to be for us at this time of year, it’s heavy going and they just don’t work fast enough, we had so many complaints yesterday as people don’t want to wait in a queue, but I fairness even the old way at this time of year we would have 2 people dealing with this and there was ALWAYS a queue and people having to wait, the problem now is they have to wait for the other customers to deal with the machine themselves. At present we’re having 1 generally 2 managers standing by the machines to assist customers, this won’t be permanent but normally we have a floating person that can assist – and this is saving money apparently! Hoping today will be a bit easier, going in with colleague earlier than normal so we can sort out the machine that we didn’t get done last night as there was just too much to do.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc.
I've been up a while, not doing anything very productive, just drinking tea! Last night I got home about 9, had something to eat and went to bed and today is likely to be similar, though I should be a little earlier. At least I hope so, I avoid working late two nights in a row, my energy levels are somehow not quite what they were 30 years ago!
I need to get my posterior in gear soon.

  • Morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off.

Well Himself was admitted to hospital yesterday. I took him in at 9 am and arrived home last night just before 10 pm. The poor man was at the end of his tether, he felt so ill. Many tests followed throughout the day, everyone was absolutely lovely with both of us, but a very tiring day.

We don't have a complete diagnosis yet, a couple more tests to do, but it is heart failure. My poor husband weighed in at 19 stone when he is usually about 14st, so carrying about 5st of fluid all around his body.

You will probably understand that I am relieved he is now in hospital. He is having intravenous diuretics to try to kick start the body into getting rid of some fluid, and obviously works so much quicker than tablets. His fluid intake is also being monitored.

Thank you all so much for thinking of us, I only had time to just skim through yesterday's thread, but I know we were in your thoughts, and that means so much. DD1 was with us all through the day at the hospital, and then DGD1 came in the evening.

We don't havee visiting in the afternoon at our hospital, just the evening but I will phone later.

    Have a good day all

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Oh Candlelight, I am so sorry to hear about your DH. I hope now he is in the hospital that they can help him. It must be very frightening for the both of you. Sending you a load of hugs and warm wishes x

Up at the crack of dawn again. My anxiety is sky high unfortunately as it is my fortnightly visit from my CMHT lady and she is insistent that we go out today. I know it is for my own good but I just feel so panicky. I have a load of paperwork to go to our council office so I am hoping we can just do that and then come back home. I will need to go and get showered and dressed today.

Good news about my cooker, the part has come in and the engineer will be coming tomorrow afternoon to fix it. It has been a bit of a nuisance not having an oven so I will be very happy when it is repaired. I want to experiment with carb free 'bread' etc. I have a recipe ready to go now I just need an oven to cook it in :).

I will be cooking sausages and chips for the family tonight. I will eat at lunchtime as I am having something totally different to them. My blood sugar is still a bit high but gradually improving so that is encouraging.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
