@beenthroughitall - I'm assuming that's because you have a larger engine, mine being only 1.4 and petrol VW, and from what people said if i'm not getting 40 something is wrong?

That's fair enough guys. Thank you for the quick replies btw, really appreciate it. Ok but i can reply on the trip meter and the miles it says on there right?

Yes, the odometer will be (reasonably) accurate. The fuel gauge is not. At best, it's an indication and at worst complete guesswork.

At 100k it will very likely have piston bore wear on that engine and low compression so this will mean more right foot to get it moving.
It may also come as a shock, but they are not that reliable, despite the advertising cliams, so do not throw too much in to it on unnecessary repairs.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

As said, that depends on the driver, and conditions. Since I dint have a crystal ball, I don't know if 40mpg is appropriate or not for your usage.

Where the hell do you get all this tosh from, or do you just make up wild generalisations for the sake of it? There's many hundreds of people out there with 100K plus 1.4 VAG engines, and they're not all worn out, low-compression, bore-worn nightmares like you make out. The mother in law's 165K Polo 6N when it was sold was in a right state, except for the engine which had been royally abused for 40K of her hard commuting.

Right i see. Well i'm going to let it run down from 1/2 until the petrol sign and see how many miles i got on the whole for £35 worth of fuel, an then take it from there i guess. Maybe take it to a garage and see if anything is wrong. Thanks guys.

That's going to tell you nothing meaningful at all.

As posted earlier - fill the tank to the brim, drive a fair bit - perhaps to the tank is around 1/4 then fill to the brim again.

How far you can go on £35 before a light comes on is irrelevant.

At the moment we are all in the dark about this matter.

Very true. The Yaris was always better on MPG, something to be with the back brakes. Fuel consumption is a Dark art indeed as a Matter of fact.

But the fact that it's only achieved 95 miles after i filled 33 litres, and it's already at half tank, isn't that an issue? Doesn't that tell me something is off?
