Thanks guys yea cross between fiesta Zetec and corsa as well as the Toyota aygo of that deal is still on as was looking at spending about £7000. The reason I was thinking Sportage was we enjoy going the lakes a lot so wanted a nice bigger type car for that reason, not an off road thing just something for that and liked the fact if was like a Land Rover type car but not as proxy as the Land Rover, bone and Audi type ones you see.0

Buying a complicated vehicle that was expensive new for £7000 doesn't mean the repair bills are going to be £7000 car sized, they will be £40k or even £60k vehicle sized.
If you want a slightly larger car for occasional use then it might make sense to rent one the few times a year you want to go to the lakes.
My sister has a Ford Galaxy purely for family stuff/holidays and her and the BiL have their other cars for commuting etc. They are lucky to be in a position to afford this flexibility.
You could get a Kia Venga around 3 years old for much less than your budget and that has a decent amount of space. But not crazy running costs.
Or the option of a small van based MPV is there, though being van based they are not as nice to drive as a car, they are not far off though.
£7000 would get you the a Fiat Qubo or the Citroen Nemo or Peugeot Bipper (I think they Bipper and Nemo are discontinued) they are all the same underneath and not bad on fuel, better than the larger Berlingo or Partner.0 -
Some people feel only being able to take four people is a limiting factor.
Also a Citigo is more comparable to a Ka than a Fiesta.
I was surprised at how poorly equipped the Citigos/Mii/Up where unless you bought a top spec one.
I assume you have driven the new Corsa?
How does it compare to the old Corsa?
No a Citigo is closer to a Corsa than a Ka. It has almost the same internal room as the Polo, and can take 4 six foot adults with ease. I've driven a few Fiesta's and found the plastics in the console a bit tacky. I thought the VW Up drove better, and was quieter and more nippy than the base Fiesta, and the base VW Polo. I had a Ford Ka which fell apart due to rust, so I am suspicious of Ford. And the paint was nowhere near as tough as the VW Up paint, despite the latter being water based.0
