Hi guys looking either new Ford Fiesta or new vaxuall corsa but unsure which is better car? Good fuel, tax and insurance? Was also looking at the Kia Sportage as like the fact it's like a Land Rover type car but it's almost £13000 second had son a little too pricey :(

I bought my new Fiesta Zetec last month. I traded in my 4 year old Fiesta which I loved, and upgraded to the newer one with the higher Zetec trim, and the 1.0 ecoboost engine (so no road tax to pay). I love this new one even more and can't recommend it highly enough. Like you, I looked at various others including the Polo, Corsa and Seat Ibiza, but for me, they didn't come near the Fiesta for practicality, value and sheer nice-to-drive-ness. I get a warm, smug glow every time I get into it :)
  • I drive a lot of Fiestas through work and as small cars go I reckon they're pretty good. I've no idea why you bother considering a Corsa, they're nowhere near as good IMO.

Test drive them both and chose which one you feel most comfortable with.

Both will be under warranty so any issues will be dealt with.

The Fiesta drives well but I can't really say I like the new shape one with the big grille.

New Corsa looks a bit like the love child of the old Corsa and an Adam.

As a confirmed Fiesta owner I'm biased but I don't think they can be bettered in the class for the price. However, I think the new Corsa probably is a better car than previous models, so I'd follow bigjl's suggestion and try them both to see which one suits you best.

As for the Sportage, it's an entirely different class and if your primary consideration is Fiesta/Corsa I cannot see any reason why you would even bother to look at one.
  • I was the same as you biased towards the big two traditional UK sellers with the Corsa or Fiesta but have a test drive in a Skoda Citigo and feel the quality of this against the lumbering heaviness of the latest Corsa. Citigo copes with Mways much better and cruises at 80 mph unstressed and relaxed whilst my Corsa is screaming with pain. I dont know how they ve managed to engineer a small 3 piston engine to do this. It also steers, handles better and is less bumpy than the Corsa D and has the best gearbox I ve used outside of an MX5. VW UP ! is the pricier version of the Citigo and will probably have better resale value.

Some people feel only being able to take four people is a limiting factor.

Also a Citigo is more comparable to a Ka than a Fiesta.

I was surprised at how poorly equipped the Citigos/Mii/Up where unless you bought a top spec one.

I assume you have driven the new Corsa?

How does it compare to the old Corsa?

We bought one of the new corsas just before Christmas, it's the 'Energy' model, has been great so far.

We got a very good deal on it, scrappage scheme, vauxhall associates discount, random internet voucher, bit of haggling, 0% interest. So it worked out loads cheaper than the equivalent fiesta.

I've had two Fiestas over the last few years and they are definitely a pleasure to drive.

Haven't got the latest model (mine's eight years old this year) and can't recommend them enough.

Won't be as fun to drive as a fiesta or have as many toys but its much better than a corsa.

I have Corsa D and used the Corsa C for 3 years.Corsa C was nippier and handled sharper and I think it was better, but like all small cars they are now putting on weight and getting fatter .I havent tried the latest Corsa but I doubt its lost weight. Citigo has about the same internal room as my Corsa and has everything I would want in any car. I can live without bloody air con and stupid toys .Personally I d never need electric windows or wing mirrors.I never use them and when my wing mirror is kicked off by the locals its not costing me £250 and more. I ve never driven a Fiesta, pity its got that daft rear window or I may have bought one. Fiesta is way down the reliability and resale list compared to VW. Fiesta chassis is renowned for best handling but I drive carefully and have never made a car screetch on a corner in my life so handling or driving "fun " does nt enter into it much with me. I m really a big fan of the Citigo and thats why my company have leased many thousands of them for use as meter reading cars which I reckon get the worst thrashings and stop start use of any car in the country far worse than say, care assistants. I can be stop/start hard driving for 10 hours a day. They should use meter reading companies to test cars. The Corsa Cs we had were doing steering racks in at 20k all the time and always breaking down.
