How long did you stay in your property before upsizing?

I understand a lot of people don't get there ideal home straight away so was just pondering how long people lived in their property before moving to somewhere bigger?
And if you'd divulge how much more did it cost?
We've just moved from a 2 bed flat to a 3 bed house but wouldn't say I'd live there forever. I owned the flat for just over 5 years.
Would love a 4 bed detached next time so hoping we can do it all again in about 5 years :rotfl:

I built my curennt house (moved from first after about 4 years due to relocation for work), was going to be my forever house, but am in process of moving again, after about 5 years... Think I maybe just get bored easily!First win (October) - Apple Ipod off a radio competition
November - new nokia mobile phone, £250 electrical voucher (both radio comptitions)
March - 2 cinema tickets to see 27 dresses (radio again!)

I'm now in a four bed detached (went from 3 bed end terrace - 5 years, 4 bed mid-terrace - 10 years). I have been here 7 months and have been planning my next move all that time! Plan to do a self-build and don't care how few rooms there areMortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060

1st house, bought on my own. 2 bed semi, no garage. Stayed 4 years. Bought for 23,500.
Got married and we bought 3 bed detached with garage 70 miles away for £55,000. Here now 19 years. House has lasted longer than husband!
Will probably have to move in 2021 when youngest leaves school as I can't see being able to buy out his share.0 -
Sold 3 bed detached in 1993 for £48k, up sized to a 4 bed terraced costing £54k, this was for a job move approx 40 miles from previous house. Stayed there 4 years then sold that for £64k and moved to a 5 bed semi close by, paid £118k.
Still in the 5 bed semi 18 years later although it's now a 4 bed as we turned one bedroom into an en suite 2 years ago when we just had one DD left at home.
Looking to downsize at some point in the next few years, maybe away from the area we live in depending on work etc. We'd want to ideally buy somewhere for about half the cost of our current house so we can enjoy early retirement 0 -
1st place doesn't really count. Bought with ex then split up and he bought me out. Did make a bit of money which was nice, but mostly because we upgraded it from a damp, recent cannabis farm to a nicely decorated actual home!
2nd place, 1 bed flat, bought for 80K (repo) and sold 5 years later for 120K.
3rd place, 3 bed semi, bought for 150K. Decent size, nice area, plan to stay here till I die which seems to be what everybody else on the street does...I'm hoping for 60 years!0 -
1st place, 3 bed terraced, 9 years
2nd place, been here 15 years now
I hate moving and value stability above all else. My old boss instilled in me the notion of pushing yourself to get the best place you can as young as you can, it worked well.0 -
Still here after 8 years
love to but market here is very slow/non mover

Still in first house after ~7 years, currently in the process of upsizing after getting married last summer.
Bought first house solo in 2009.
The purchase price of the new house is 2.25 times more than the purchase price of the first and current.
The mortgage required for the new house is 1.8 times more than the mortgage needed for the first.0 -
First house 2 bed semi, two years.
Second house (4 bed three plus attic conversion) toilet downstairs, old terraced, four years.
Third house 3 bed semi, eleven years, still own it renting it out.
Current house 5 bed detached, four years so far.
Long term plan, another 8 to 10 years here then relocate to somewhere a bit more rural, with some land.0
