Over priced high watt vacuums online

Just a warning to anyone who might be shopping around on EBay or Amazon UK at the moment for a new vacuum cleaner - a few third party sellers listed as companies on either sites are listing premium AEG, Bosch and Miele vacuums with the "old" high wattage motors for double the price of retail.
Just as the EU law came in September 2015 where vacuum cleaners must comply with lower wattage ruling and general sale, a few leading department stores still had old stock of Miele and other branded vacuums at sales prices of £200 for example.
One seller on EBay UK for example lists a Miele 2000 watt vacuum cleaner at £398 when the retail price from Currys was £199.
Another seller on Amazon UK lists a Miele S8310 at £409 when the actual price from John Lewis, Argos and a few others was £199 on average.
I cant add actual names on here of these sellers as of course this might libellous.

Everything has a price, it comes down to supply and demand. If no-one demands them at these prices, the prices will fall. Exactly the same happens when the new must-have toys come out before Christmas, new limited trainers are released, etc etc.
Pay it, or don't pay it, that's all you can do. It is in no way libellous to point out that people are selling things and trying to make a profit.0 -
Everything does NOT have a price - the newer vacuums on sale in the UK with lower wattage power does not even cost as much as these brand new vacuums that are now classed as energy deficient by EU law ruling. So its a rip off warning to any buyer.
And these "people" are companies, not individual private sellers.0 -

Load of rubbish. *Everything has a price*, it's what the market will bear. Yes it might be expensive, but so what ? If people were too slow to buy a higher-powered vacuum, their loss. They should have got one many months ago, or they can pay the higher price now.
If you don't like that, please find a communist utopia to live in0 -
Companies trying to offload pre-EU rule stock at a premium, because there is a demand for these machines, big deal.
Should be in the praise, vent, warnings forum, not a consumer rights issue.0 -
The issue isn't what people SHOULD have done months ago though. These vacuums simply aren't worth the money they are now being re-listed at and there's hardly any demand for them. Others would be selling old stock vacuums at high prices if demand is there - but that isn't happening.
The EU law also bans any high powered vacuum cleaner over 1600 watts for general sale in the UK.0 -

Thank you - I couldn't find the vent or warnings forum. I shall now try and get this moved over.0 -

There was an exception to sell existing stock when the law came in, has that expired?I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -

People who do not want to be nannied by EU regs still want to buy these high power vacs and will pay that price for them. The newer powered models may well be cheaper by it's not what some people want.
There is no rip-off, scam or anything else, it's simple supply and demand.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Yes and no. When the law was passed and implemented, some franchises lowered prices but only by a couple of pounds dependent on the brand and dependent on the franchise and offers. Other companies kept the existing price since it was stock to be sold before the EU law arrived.
But even then a Miele vacuum cleaner would never cost £400 unless it was a high end model, of which the ones listed with sellers currently online are not.
Now you can no longer buy a high powered vacuum cleaner over 1600 watts because it is classed as energy deficient. BUT these sellers online are selling old stock high wattage vacuums at twice the price than the energy efficient vacs.0
