Yorkshire Bank PPI

Good evening !
I have a query about PPI and possibly claiming it back.
I've have written to my bank (the Yorkshire Bank) asking if they could check for any evidence of me paying PPI on any products I have had with them over the years.
They have come back to me with a list which is great and really useful. However I know not where to go from here....
I have downloaded their own PPI "questionnaire" which is quite an intimidating document, mainly because of the detail some of the questions go into, its just such a long time ago I have no idea what I should be writing on there.
They have flagged 2 items I have PPI on, a loan (I only ever took out loans to purchase a car so we are talking possibly 20 years ago when I was young and naive) and on a mortgage (which to be honest I have no recollection of having any discussion on with regards to PPI.
I guess I am asking whether I am wasting my time given the timescales and the lack of evidence. As I have moved around the UK (Midlands - Lancashire - Yorkshire) I have slowly shredded a previous mountain of bank statements so the only evidence I have of having PPI is this 1 letter from the bank and my memories. Also how accurate does the info in the questionaire have to be ie. they are asking about salary, sick pay (I no longer work for either company applicable for the timescales involved PLUS they have both ceased to exist).
Any advice will be gratefully received. Being honest it just feels like I would be wasting both there time and mine....

It looks as if it is before the regulisation of the industry ie 2005 but there is nothing to stop you filling in the form that they have sent you.
Remember, you are not making a claim, you are making a complaitn. This may be successful, or it may not. Because it is before regulation they can just tell you to move on.
But there is always a chance. Fill the form in, if you are not sure, say you are not sure, if you dont remember, then just say you dont remember.
I gave my daughter this same advice a few years ago, with very little information and she was sent a cheque for ariound £800
Just send it off and forget about it. You might get a nice surprise or you may get nothing, either way you have only lost a bit of time.
And if you get a payout, mine is a large dry white wine please. xxmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

You are making an allegation of wrongdoing. That is why they need to know these things. So, tell them the truth and if you cant remember than say so. They do not expect perfect recollection but most complaints are not upheld on wishy washy recollections of what may or may not been said. So, dont worry too much about saying you cant remember.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. So vague dates etc are ok ?
For example on the 2 loans flagged by the bank (1 with PPi sold and the other "unable to determine") I can go with a vague date ? I know they were both taken out when I was working at a specific place, I know the timings of my employment so can work around that ?
Also do I need to complete a questionaire each "complaint" ? As i aluded to I have 2 confirmed instances of PPI, a loan and a mortgage, so I complete a form for each ?0 -
complete a different form for each type, so a different one mortgage and loan each.
For the loan, it would have been single premium PPI, mention that in your complaint.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Thanks, I'll get it filled in and sent this weekend !0

Just a quick reply to close/finish this up.
I got a reply from the Yorkshire Bank which has blew me away. In total I have received nearly £5500 back from them. I was honestly expecting nothing due to the lack of evidence and timescales involved. All it has cost me is time, ink, paper, stamps and patience.
Reward ? Aside from my mortgage I am now 100% debt free thanks to just following the link on the Yorkshire Banks website to query whether I had PPI and by using the questionnaire on the website rather than the banks.
Thanks so much for the advice and help etc. I never thought I'd be debt free, WOW0 -
Hello. I’m hoping someone could help me also, I went though the Yorkshire bank website for PPI claim and it’s come back ‘unable to determine’ I thought I had it with a mortgage around 1995-1998 so where would I go from here, on the letter it mentions the complaints procedure but I have no account number, I hear on the radio advertising the claims guys saying you don’t need any acc numbers but I don’t know if they’d get the same response, has anyone made a successful claim after being told ‘unable to determine’? Thank youHi all,
I had a Yorkshire Bank current account in the early to mid 1990's, I cannot remember the exact dates. During the time that I had this bank account, I know that I had a loan and a credit card too.
I completed a PPI Information Request on the Yorkshire Bank website and they sent me the following information:
Loan 1 (account number provided) - Unable to determine if PPI was held.
Loan 2 (account number provided) - Unable to determine if PPI was held.
Credit Card (card number provided) - Unable to determine if PPI was held.
Therefore, my question to this forum is whether I should apply for an SAR or whether I should just go through the standard internal complaints procedure?
Has anyone here received a similar response from Yorkshire Bank (i.e. Unable to determine)?
Any relevant advice would be welcome. Thanks.0 -
Unless you have evidence you give up. A claims company are not going to be able to help with something that old. Under Data Protection the Yorkshire Bank will have rightly destroyed any records from that long ago.
It is also unlikely a mortgage PPI complaint would be upheld anyway.0
