I would chat with maybe experienced people you know in the breed i can only comment on the breed i have. Vets yes have a brilliant wealth of knowledge but you will find its animal specific not breed.

Me and my partner own huskies and ours are all imported racing lines as a breed the males are very very slow too mature ie around 2 years old. Vets locally 2 well known franchises i have heard neuter huskies at 7-8 months old no cancer risks

I would wait if it were me until the male is at least 18 months speak with people in your breed club.

    I've been Money Tipped!
And very keen to do so as well!

Not necessarily. As I said, my dog is coming up to 4 and shows no interest in females even ones that are coming into or finishing their season. He recently met one in the street that was in season and wasn't interested in her. Both dogs were on lead and my dog made no attempt to get closer to the female

Getting a dog neutered for behavioural reasons only works if the cause is hormonal.

Often aggression is actually fear based which can be made worse when the supply of testosterone os removed.

I personally wouldn't neuter before 2 years old.

Humping is not always sexual. it can be a sign of stress or of excitement.

However, I would discourage him from humping by redirecting to a toy or a game.

I really can't decide what to make of this...

It's verging on cruelty to leave an animal with its sexual urges intact but unable to have an outlet for them - get him done asap.

Dogs aren't human beings, the only time a dog will have any "sexual urges" as you put it are when they scent an in season female & even then the response varies between individual males.
You really shouldn't be trying to transfer or compare human behaviour traits to dogs... dogs, like most animals & unlike us, only mate to breed.

If you leave a dog un-neutered though, you can never let it off the lead (unless you have acres of completely secure private land I suppose). That to me is possibly the worst consequence. I can't imagine being happy to let a dog live its whole life with that restriction, every dog I've ever had has shown such immense joy in running free, I'm sure if you could ever ask them they'd choose that over keeping their puppy-making bits.

An urge to mate to breed is a sexual urge and most intact dogs will regularly encounter females in season.

If I were being anthropomorphic about it, as you suggest, I'd tell him to have some self control, but, as he's an animal, it's best that those urges should be removed, or at least reduced, unless the owner plans to breed from him.

That's how you want your dogs to live & fair play but there are hundreds of thousands of dogs who don't get that opportunity for various reasons... I don't see how the potential risks of neutering apply to those dogs who are always on lead?

I would hope the number of dogs who spend their entire lives without ever being let off the lead even rarely, is very small.

I don't understand your last sentence I'm afraid.

So you say! Only recently have studies been undertaken to show how chopping bits out of our pets actually affects their health... just because it was always thought it was right doesn't mean it is right, knowledge moves on!
