Neighbours From Hell + Selling Up

Hi,

Has anyone had neighbours from hell, and if and when they sold up, did they make a huge loss on the property?

If things work out and my Mother agrees (if this house sells is the main sticking point), we will be moving out of this house and moving into a smaller one with much nicer neighbours.

My concern is the sale of this house. The neighbours from hell have a reputation and I know that will put a lot of people off. They are also very noisy. The new ventilator fan they have had fitted is so loud, you can hear it 3 doors away. In fact, when it is on, the people who live opposite them (about 15m away) come out of their house to see what the noise is. We live next to it, so the sound is even louder.

I can just imagine someone coming to view the house, hearing the ventilator fan and walking right out. Or listening to the non stop door slamming and then walking out.

Has anyone been in this predicament and if so, how much did it wipe off the value of the house?

Thanks.

Do they do things every day which viewers would see/hear if they viewed your house for 20-30mins?
Have you ever complained about them/is there any disputes recorded?
What's the ventilator fan? Is it big/noticeable? Or is it the noise?

I have but the new ventilator fan is new!

Also, we have now seen a house which Mother might actually move to. It's only 2 streets away mind.

I just need to weigh up all the options.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but have you considered that it might be you? Have you thought about just moving out of your family home and into your own place rather than pressuring your mother to move when it doesn't really seem like she wants to.

Real 'neighbours from hell' do a lot worse than slam their doors and run extractor fans, those are both fairly normal things that people do in houses. Is it not worth considering that perhaps you are unusually sensitive to the noise they create?

    Hi. Thanks for your response.

It depends what time the people were viewing and if the dregs next door were in or in their bathroom.

We have had words with them face to face about hoovering bedrooms after midnight but they told us to clear off and let them do what they wanted in their house and then flanked our car with a dead rat. Pathetic I know.

Never officially been to the Council or the Police. When I spoke to the Council unofficially they told me hoovering at night was normal household noise as was door slamming. So I have never been down that route.

The ventilator fan is one of those bathroom extractor fans. God knows why so much noise comes through. I would speak to their other neighbours but the dregs had a huge fallout with them recently over parking and I personally think the extremely loud ventilator fan is to annoy them. But as we are the other neighbours we also suffer.

    Thanks.

Is it the same fan that you mentioned in a nearly identical thread almost exactly a year ago?

The problem only occurs if you make an official complaint to the council as it would then need to be declared when you sell. Everyone is bothered by different types of noise - some hate traffic noise, some hate noisy kids, some hate noisy dogs.

Oh absolutely. I would go right now if I could. But Mother is housebound and quite poorly. I would not be able to live elsewhere and look after her too.

I am her child so feel I should look after her. I am sure we could get a carer in for her.

I am not literally dragging her out of this house if that's what you meant. Mother can do whatever she wants. I just hate the thought of a lady of her age having to suffer like this. The noise really bothers her too. And she seems to think patience is a virtue but this is taking the biscuit now.

But actually you have got me thinking. Maybe a carer is the best thing for her if she wants to stay here. Genius idea xx

That's the old one. They have had a new one installed last week.

Thanks for that. I have never been down the official route.

And you are absolutely right. I don't mind loud shouty kids. I can't do with loud slamming though. That drives me crazy.
