It's actually an offence for a trader to to miss-lead a buyer into believing that he is a private seller. One of the obvious ways of telling is whether the car's V5 has him as the RK or not.

the cars V5 had his sons name from what i gather. we only received the V5 back on the 19th march 2016. name wasnt his as the name on the said philip not douglas (his name) and the young gentleman at the front was named kevin.

Well you need to establish this as IF it is a private sale, your statutory rights almost totally disappear.

yeah i am establishing this as a private.

hence i was asking about the ECU incase some people may have some car knowledge but i am asking on several sides to try and compile information on this.

if he sold this with a fault known that wasnt offered to us within the seller site (gumtree)
and wasnt declared to us .. it would come as a shady deal..

also would the ecu just die or would it give out errors prior that something wasnt right.
