is it legal to come to an agreement with the driver at fault to pay cash their and then to keep insurance and all others out the way if its a small incident I done this once it was £60 for a small dent which the guy went 2 streets down to get a quote within 30 mins i paid him cash no claims or excesses to pay and both parties walk away happy.
I suspect all you can do is judge the other party on what you see and go with your gut instinct.
If its a solid sort of chap, one you'd want on your side when things got grim probably yes you could come to a gentlemans agreement, but these sorts of chaps seem to be in ever shorter supply these days, the other sort who's word means as much as a politician's might relieve you of a couple hundred quid and then go for a whiplash scam via claimsRus.0 -
Having worked in the vehicle rental business, I can say that most firms inflate their actual excess to encourage you to purchase their excess liability waiver/limitation 'products'. This is usually an optional daily fee of anything between £8 to £12. If you take this, they will then absorb all the excess (as stated on the rental agreement) or reduce it in the event of an accident irrespective of fault.
In reality it's simply adds more revenue to the rental company because unlike a normal deposit, the get to keep the waiver fee when the car is returned undamaged.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. Its been 2 weeks since I had my courtesy car accident and I reported it as I thought at the time it was a criminal offense not to report you hitting a car if the CCTV camera picks it up and they report you to the police.
It does state their is a £700 excess to pay on damage, but the guy who came to collect the car says no damage everything is okay.
They haven't called me back so everything seems okay so far.0
