Hi,

Anyone used europcar and bumped into someone do they charge you £700 excess if you call up after a minor accident?

There was no visible damage to both cars. My insurance company on other car say its a criminal offence not to inform your insurance company you had any sort of accident is this the same for europcar i imagine.

They miss informed you, it's not a criminal offence not to inform your Insurer.

You have a contract between you and the Insurer, they pay your valid claims, in return you agree to inform them of all potential incidents and potential claims. By not informing them you are breaching the contract between you and them. Thus it's a breach of contract, that's not a crime, it's contractual law

If there's no visible damage then personally I wouldn't mention it.

When you have a collision (especially involving bumpers) there is often no damage immediately visible at the scene.

But on closer inspection it can be found that the car has absorbed the impact and there is damage to boot floors etc (and bumpers may have absorption zones which have done their job and now need replacing) - this type of damage is often only apparent when a proper inspection has taken place in a bodyshop

So it won't be seen when he returns the car. ;)

i find it hard to believe that a car will not sustain any paint damage at all on the bumper while the force is such that it will damage the steel structure of the car.

OP: you will most likely lose all your excess, even if there is no significant damage they will say they had to take the car off rental and undertake repair/diagnosis work which ends up costing £50 a day for the duration it is sent to the mechanic.

I was thinking more of the third party coming back later with a claim!

and, since this is MSE, get it from a third party provider rather than the hire company

is it legal to come to an agreement with the driver at fault to pay cash their and then to keep insurance and all others out the way if its a small incident I done this once it was £60 for a small dent which the guy went 2 streets down to get a quote within 30 mins i paid him cash no claims or excesses to pay and both parties walk away happy.

for your own car it's possible, but on a hire car it's unrealistic.
