Both Faster Payments and BACS only use sort code and account number. Payee name is used to provide information for your statement, but there is no "checking" involved. See MSE on mistaken payments:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/send-money-wrong-account
"[...]the only information banks use to identify payees is the sort code and account number, and not the recipient's name, meaning if these details are wrongly entered the cash could end up in a stranger's bank account."

Also see step 3 from BACS on Direct Credit (how the vast majority of UK employees are paid wages):
    https://www.bacs.co.uk/Services/bacsschemes/gettingstarted/Pages/BacsDirectCredit.aspx
"To make a Bacs Direct Credit payment, the minimum information you require is the sort code and account number of the payee's bank or building society account."

As others have said, clearly this is at best a temporary solution to such a serious gambling problem.

A employer always asks, its a security measure for fraud...generally gov dept frauds.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I know from repeat personal experience that the above is not accurate. While I have never had my wages paid to another person's bank account, all employees have asked for is a sort code and account number if I change bank details. A bit of googling found various people discussing already being paid through another person. This does create problems: is a breach of bank T&Cs (though they won't know if you don't tell them), and has risks for both parties, but it is certainly possible. Unless you can point me to a specific provision in legislation or case law, I am not prepared to accept an unfounded assertion that it is "illegal."

Your fantastical pronouncements on every single thread in this part of the forum are really unhelpful, diamonds. When challenged with hard evidence (as above) simply resort to more delusional fabrications, or cry fowl and claim you are vulnerable you and being personally attacked. I have no interest in attacking you. Simply trying to give people advice which is, to the best of my knowledge, accurate. I am always happy to be corrected, but only by people who can bother to produce hard evidence or at least a relevant anecdote. You never have either, simply untilleigible muttering such as "generally govt dept frauds". You are welcome to live in whatever version of reality suits you, but please stop trying to impose it on the rest of us.

OP, I apologise for the diversion. On balance, it's not a good idea for your friend to get paid through their father anyway. Seek help, urgently.

My info is based on the parts of legislation pointed out in the payroll training and handbook I recall from working for a local authority, also backed by DWP and HMRC internal training on benefit fraud, that was a long time ago but infact reality not fantasy. Further, all employers I have worked with infact needed the account name not just 'numbers'

"simply resort to more delusional fabrications, or cry fowl and claim you are vulnerable" Saying I cry discrimination ? NEVER how immature and discriminative to say I use my medical disabilities as a get out of jail card, how dare you be so vulgar. "I have no interest in attacking you." Really ? You just tried.

I share the knowledge I have gathered through Public Service and half a law degree before becoming to ill to continue normal working life. Boo hoo I worked my butt off in life and share such information gathered from such, I'm such a bad person.
