Advice please about wages payment

Hi all, I'm new here and just really hope someone has payroll knowledge that can help. Long story short. Can a person have their wages paid into someone else's bank account? A friend of mine has a gambling addiction and is getting into serious money problems. He wants his wages paid into his dad's bank account to help minimise his spending problems. My friend needs to have his access to the money restricted entirely. His dad currently keeps his cash cards and gives him a daily allowance. However his addiction is getting so bad now that he is going directly to the bank with ID & making cash withdrawals that way. If his money was in someone else's account this would prevent this from being able to happen. However his employer is refusing to pay his wages into a different account stating it is not permitted. My friend has agreed to sign any declaration the employer wishes to draft but they are refusing. Is there anything that can be done.

A employer cannot refuse to change bank account details for wage payment lol I think a written complaint needs to be made.
Sure, I have had wages and ESA paid to my old mans account.
You do have to disclose the name of the account holder but I dont see why that should ever be a issue.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
He should call http://www.gamblersanonymous.org.uk/ without delay.0

Why tell the employer at all? Give them the father's sort code and account number, and be done with it. They don't need to know whose account it is. Of course, now he's told them, it may cause some difficulty, but it wouldn't have if he had claimed to have changed bank account.0

If and usually you are asked the account holders name giving a different name may cause delays, security checks, fraud, money laundering.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... He knows how much he receives in salary and the date it will reach his account.
Set up a standing order for that date so that all except a pound or two is immediately transferred to his father's bank account.
However, this is a temporary solution and is not tackling the underlying problem; it also begs the question of what would happen if anything happened to Dad.
Encourage your friend to seek qualified help immediately.0 -

Both Faster Payments and BACS only use sort code and account number. Payee name is used to provide information for your statement, but there is no "checking" involved. See MSE on mistaken payments:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/send-money-wrong-account
"[...]the only information banks use to identify payees is the sort code and account number, and not the recipient's name, meaning if these details are wrongly entered the cash could end up in a stranger's bank account."
Also see step 3 from BACS on Direct Credit (how the vast majority of UK employees are paid wages):
https://www.bacs.co.uk/Services/bacsschemes/gettingstarted/Pages/BacsDirectCredit.aspx
"To make a Bacs Direct Credit payment, the minimum information you require is the sort code and account number of the payee's bank or building society account."
As others have said, clearly this is at best a temporary solution to such a serious gambling problem.0 -
An employer is under no obligation to pay wages to a 3rd party unless ordered to do so via court order.
More than that, I believe an employer is legally entitled to make it a condition of employment that the employee gets paid into a UK bank account in their own name. I am not sure how they would verify the information they are given by their employees, but given the amount of criminal activities in our society it is likely that employers have the legal right to verify the identity of an account holder with a bank - just like banks have the right to verify the ID of an applicant with an employer.
None of this will help a gambling addict. The OP needs to get his friend to accept professional help for the addiction.0 -

That would be arrested monies, not all wages at the employees request.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

A employer has the right to see UK/EU photo ID or passport and visa status, not where a employee salary is dispersed too at their request. It could be to a EU account not just a UK a/c.
Obviously salary to a parents account is a short term measure whilst help and treatment is sought, take a stupid parent to dp otherwise (saying that I know someone close to me who parent has be in denial of addiction for 25 years, its everyone elses fault, the company the keep :rotfl: fantasy: its not the thousands they hand them every year that they spend all their wages on multiple substance abuses...some people and their parents just cant be helped past a quarter century of denial)SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies...
