  • has someone managed to update his or her tax residency details on the Natwest Online Banking Service or with the online chat service ?
Also, Natwest asks to send a copy of a valid passport issued by the jurisdiction in which the account holder claims to be a resident. How is that possible for nationals being tax residents outside of their home country ? Thanks a lot for anyone's advice on this.
  • I don't know for sure but have you looked at post 214 in this thread which certainly implies that it should work.

Yes, I saw that and that is what got me curious. I've updated my account so I'll ride it out and see what happens beyond the 3/1/18, which is the cut-off date on the letter.

    Tom.
  • After spending most of the night reading this thread I got a letter from Hodges bank in Cardiff, recommended by MSE on the savings account page. This thread has been very informative and I think I will email the form as a pdf as I don't trust the post although email is probably not as safe.
  • Have had 2 of these letters from Halifax (after not responding to the first!) - Told them I updated my account info in online banking and their @AskHalifax Twitter team said no further action req.

Just had a phone call from Barbara Simpson – Complaint Manager - Lloyds Banking Group Glasgow she told me letter was a fake and to ignore it cause there was no last 3 numbers to identify account and that they would not allow bank details to be sent to a third party as this would be a breach of the data protection act her words exactly, letter looks real enough though maybe they did send them out and now they are saying they are fake as they now realise they could be in trouble with data protection. If any of you are still worried about these letters email complaints dept from your online banking and they will ring you back within 2 days telling you to ignore it.

Parliament has already considered the Data Protection aspects of FATCA & the CRS. It will be more interesting to see if banks start closing accounts to protect themselves: https://www.thelocal.fr/20190729/french-banks-could-be-forced-to-close-40000-accounts-of-american-citizens
