Paying more than someone with a en suite (Renting)
Comments

It just sounds very much like you and your housemates don't like each other very much - so you're using the rent issue as a channel for your anger with each other.
If you were all best mates, I'm sure this would be a non-issue.
(If you liked each other, it would probably resolve itself by the person with the good rent deal doing something like volunteering to buy all the house cleaning materials etc, or buying everyone more rounds in the pub!)
Perhaps your LL is very astute in putting the problems down to 'disharmony'.0 -
If the LL isn't putting the rent up for existing tenants (in one case over a period of 5 years!) then you've found yourself a gem of a LL. I'd stop complaining or he might decide to make you all pay the market rate which would mean that one of you will see the rent increase by at least £40pm and everybody pay more.
Count your blessings!0 -
Do you really think that getting the roommate's rent increased is going to improve the harmony in the house....?? Mind you, I guess the landlord will be happy!
I think the LL's idea is the best - have a meeting (yeah guys - over tea and cake) and discuss it openly. Perhaps you can persuade the roommate with the ensuite to pay each of the others £5 pm to even things out? Or to do a bigger share of chores, or contribute a bit extra to communal costs (assuming you share household consumables) ? Who knows? Pigs might fly!
If the LL made a mistake on the advert, or for whatever reason, this person has a good deal. Be happy for them. It doesn't make yours a bad deal. I'm no Christian (or Muslim, Jew or Buddist...), but The bible does say some sensible stuff in placs, like "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house"....................0 -
Isn't the LL rather overstepping the mark by messaging people about disharmony and wanting house meetings? They're the LL not a mediator or houseparent, you're not at boarding school. I'd be wanting them to butt out and would be ignoring any such messages.
Sort it out amongst yourselves as adults or move on.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
This tenant with the en suite is paying £20 less than someone in a very average double room.
...
The tenant with the en suite keeps complaining to the landlady about 'issues' in the house which the rest of us believe are not issues. This tenant is fussy and has always complained and tried to get their own way. So that makes the rest of us even more annoyed.
To me it seems that this tenant is better able to stand for himself and to negotiate. Hence the result he got with his rent.
You'll find that this is how it works everywhere, and why companies usually want to keep salaries confidential.0 -
The bible does say some sensible stuff in placs, like "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house"....................
but nowhere does it say "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's en suite".
Is this thread a wind up

So if you're happy with what you pay, get on with it. What others pay is no more your business than what others get paid at work for doing similar jobs to you. I'm sorry but this whole thread is petty beyond belief.

so what. The landlord doesn't have to justify the rents to you.
Stop acting like a 6 year old.0 -
Imagine the in fighting if the tenant with en suite ever moves out!:rotfl:0
