Pricefighter, O2 offer calls to 0870 & 0845 numbers free from your free minutes alocation but you will be charged for any 0844, 0871 etc calls. Not sure of the call charges for these calls.
I hope this helps.0 -
Thanks for that ,somebody told me they had included 0844 as well but i couldnt get any sense out of them.PF.0

I get Free calls to 0844/0845/0870/0800/0500 numbers from my tariff. Calls to 0871 numbers are not included.
It does depend on your tariff through, I'm on the old Genie Mobile Tariff0 -
Mine has 0844 and the others as matrix999 says. It is an old contract, but even so if 0844 is often cheaper than 0870 you'd expect it to still be included.
It is notoriously difficult to get details of the call rates for these calls from most networks. I tried asking O2 about the various ones from payg; I think after about 4 answers in 6 or 7 calls I gave up (and it might be different online and shop).
On my tariff 0871 is 35p per minute I believe - haven't used it for 2 1/2 years.
Best to make a couple of short calls and check the next bill.0 -
Can I go back to basics and find out the reason for the original question?
Is it to use cheap international calls providers access numbers by any chance?0 -

In which case, you might also take a look at the service of http://www.pre-dial.com/
they have Orange, O2 and Vodafone numbers as call-through access numbers. The range of countries is similar or slightly larger than for 0844 and 0870 numbers.
Also, if you are on O2 or T-mobile, you could look at http://www.simply-fone.com/
which has more countries still; significantly for some members here, India and Pakistan
You'll see on other threads around here that Orange recently started charging for calls to their 07744 access numbers, rather than counting as from included minutes, and it may be that the other companies will soon do so.
If you're satisfied with the country lists on the other services, I'd spread usage around a bit to delay the time when the mobile companies recognise the numbers. They are entitled to block or charge them.
If you are choosing a network at the moment on the basis of all this, I should think O2 would be favourite; otherwise try Pre-dial.0 -
I noticed that AOL charge more to call 07744/07755 numbers on there new talk plans.Perhaps this loophole is coming to and end.PF.0

I think when Ofcom review cross-network termination fees later in the year, it will have an effect on 07744 numbers. Dolphin and 3 numbers have higher charges at the moment and Ofcom want to drive down all rates.0
