European Breakdown Cover

rogercruse wrote:Hi,
Tried two days running to book with quotelinedirect for breakdown cover, but each time I hit an error on their server.
I email them after the first instance. No reply.
If they can't keep a server up & running. Or respond to my email. Why should I believe they'll respond if I need them in deepest europe with a duff fanbelt or whatever.
Finally booked my breakdown cover with another company.
Roger...
We were covered with quotelinedirect. Euope Assist recovered us back from Brittany last week and I could n't fault them. They were excellent.:rotfl:0 -
Like the original poster, I have been looking for European breakdown cover - either single-journey or annual policy - for an older car (mine is 17 years old and in excellent condition...).
The vast majority of insurers seem to have an upper age limit (for the car!) of 15-16 years. Vehicle Rescue Direct, and other providers whose rescue service is actually delivered by Axa or Inter Partner (same company), all have a limit of 15-16 years. Rowett also has a similar limit, as does EuroRescue, First Call and Tesco. InsureandGo, whom I use for other travel insurance and are generally very good value, also impose a car age limit of 10years or up to max of 15 years on payment of extra premium.
The best deal I have found for my 17 year old car is with Quotelinedirect, who are online only. Website is http://www.quotelinedirect.co.uk/breakdown/
Their rescue service is delivered by EuropAssistance (very reliable and efficient). They will cover cars up to 20 years old. Their annual policy, giving breakdown cover for UK and for 90 days in Europe (each trip <21 days), is £59. Hope I don't need them, but the cover gives me peace of mind!
PS I have other old(ish) cars insured under classic policies which include UK and EU breakdown cover - which is, or should be, a better deal than getting a separate breakdown policy...
