PIP and free car tax.

Just a bit of info for anyone not aware-

Hubby was on the higher rate of DLA which meant he got free car tax. We do not have a mobility car but have a car of our own.

Since changing to PIP he has had a letter saying he has 10 points on the mobility.
The letter is very blunt saying 'If you have a Mobility Car you are to return it at once'. That does not apply to us but I can imagine that being told your car is being taken back will be very upsetting for a lot of people.

The letter goes on to say 'You are no longer entitled to free car tax. So today I go on line to apply for a tax disc and find its not something you can actually do on line as your current tax disc has not actually expired, but, it is not valid from the date your payments change from DLA to PIP payments.

So I rang the DVLA and it appears that if you have 8 points or more you are entitled to a 50% reduction in the cost.

Nowhere on the PIP paperwork does it tell you anything about this so on reading you would just assume as I did that you are now liable for the full cost.

So, for anyone getting the same letter and being faced with having to either lose the car or pay the full tax please be aware that there is a 50% rate if you have 8 or more points.

    No it isn't.

8 points up to 11 is standard rate mobility for PIP.
100 percent free car tax and a mobility car is for those of us with enhanced mobility at 12 points. Those with standard mobility get 50 percent car tax paid and no motability car.

Husband is waiting for his pip decision after having high DLA and tax ran out on 31st Went on line to renew on 27 and as long as your certificate is still valid on that date it will go through. I did know that i would have to pay 50% if on standard mobility. Olso the blue badge may not be issued as every council has their own rules on this, so i would check this out to.

For anyone getting carer's allowance this is still be paid on standard care. Stressed out waiting for that brown envelope.

How on earth does capping VED exemption help the planet?
please enlighten me with the verified research where you got this from!

    IN FACT:

I challenge you to find a range rover on the motability website.

I also challenge you to find a range rover dealership that specifically lists a range rover on the motability scheme.

Have seen BMW SUV's but lets face it its not a rangie in terms of status is it!

A merc, yes but only certain models and engines and require a hefty deposit. hardly a SUV ML BRABUS series is going to be on a motability scheme!

Volvo's yes, but lets face it its not a merc in status is it! Plus the Disabled claimant could be working a decent job or they simply know how to look after their money to afford such items and luxuries.

TBH if you've seen one on motability its been in your dreams or simply you're starting to believe you own lies OR seen one with a blue badge in it (and you judged it and jumped to the wrong conclusion) then its not a default its on the motability scheme as the badge is for the person not the car!.

Tax exempt. again it can be owned outright if the tax is exempt it only means the RK gets DLA HM or PIP SRM/ERM and again the person who is disabled CAN WORK ON BOTH type of Disability benefit and certainly could be financed by their hard graft.

and before you sound even more silly by saying "if they're working and earning a decent wage then they shouldn't be claiming these benefits or the VED exemption", I say WHY NOT THEYRE PAYING IN VIA THEIR NI-CONTS THEY ARE PAYING INTO THE SYSTEM why shouldn't they be entitled to claim it our GOV says they can or they would have closed this gap on the war on the welfare system policy and budget just gone SO THERE!!.

the Truth didn't say you can get those cars on the motobility scheme...

He just said why give free car tax to those who can afford extremely expensive cars. In fact why give free car tax at all? It's not an extra cost associated with disability. It's a cost that everyone that has a car has.

Because, at the moment, DLA / PIP aren't means tested benefits. It's an award given in addition, to help people live an independent life. Supposedly.

We wouldn't need 2 vehicles (one is a 3 door corsa so unsuitable for the power chair user in the family, one is a WAV ) if it wasn't for disability so yes it certainly is an extra cost of disability in my families case.

But that wasn't the point that the truth made. He stated why give free car tax on cars that cost a lot of money, which are not an expense based on disability. Disabled people do not require range rovers etc, so why get the high tax discounted.

That's all he said. Yet four people have liked the ridiculous vitriolic post but atrix which is angry at things the truth didn't even say...

Our tax was done until November but when your payments change from DLA to PIP the free tax year is immediately ended.

I did not know that thank's, so who informed you and does this mean you are un taxed for a while till you send the information to DVLA, If so it is going to create a lot of confusion. Have you noticed the few post's in between us do not seem to be about what our thread is about.
