Sorry, I must have missed your link to Blackcircles.

And I agree I would not buy those, too big a chance they are poor quality Chinese tyres.

Though it won't be long before Chinese tyres become a serious option, not so long ago Korean tyres were viewed as being a lower quality tyre to the more established European, Japanese or American brands.

Chinese tyre brands are now very big in many parts of Africa. In fact the new all electric Buses for London are Chinese (BYD) so clearly the Chinese are catching up to the rest of the world technologically.

Falken tyres (XE914), been using them for many years now, they're not as good as the Bridgestones (Turanza) I had when I first got new tyres on this car, but they come a close second and cost half the price.

I tried Avon ZV5, they were utterly useless and I used to be quite a fan of Avon tyres from way back when I was more into club motorsport, sprint, hillclimb, etc.

How much do those Falkens cost in the size the OP requires?

    Hi all,

I have a budget of around £50 per tyre and having done research on different websites it seems there are quite a range available for my tyre size.
    The tyres are 175 65R14 82T.
I've seen Pirelli's, Michelin's, Goodyears, Avon etc. all within this price range but really don't know what would be a bargain or not or the best buy...
If anyone can suggest anything at all I'd really appreciate it as there seems to be quite a choice available within that budget?

From that choice, I'd be getting the £42 Michelins or the £36 Continentals. If you really wanted to keep the cost down, then the £31 Vredesteins.

Strange as it may seem I found Asda tyres the cheapest and they fit them at a range of local garages.

Thanks all, great feedback and suggestions. I spent some time looking at the Hankook Eco K425s today and noticed the variation in the EU ratings:
82T (same as I have now) - E fuel economy and B for wet grip
    82H & 86T - C for fuel economy and wet grip

My local tyre place said the 82T was better, 86 would be intended for bigger/heavier vehicles. 82H is a bit more although the same price possibly at Kwikfit (about £42).

Which seemed to think that tyre was top for fuel economy which I think is my biggest interest although the Continentals also have C for economy and A for wet grip for one of them.

Still having a think but it looks like mostly Fire/Bridgestone and BF Goodrich don't seem that widely favoured. I'll check out the other branks mentioned as well, the Nexen etc.

I've found the following prices for some of the many tyre places in my area so much for consideration:
Brand Tyre Fuel Wet grip Price
    Continental Premium Contact 5 C A £43.90
    Hankook K425 86T C C £43.50
    Hankook K425 82T E B £40.50
    Michelin Energy Saver+ C B £41.90
