Problem with paintwork on used car

I bought a used car Hyundai i10 2013 plate from a dealer and took it to my local Hyundai garage who checked the service history, carried out a visual check and confirmed the manufacturers warranty is intact for another 2 years.


Car went back to dealer for a free polish and paint protection treatment on my car yesterday but this has now revealed two brown patches on the doors near the window rubber seal that look like rust I don't expect the car to be spotless but there was no rust/ discolouration evident when I purchased the car.


When I asked about this I was advised to wash it with the special free shampoo they gave me and "see how it goes" .... feeling fobbed off and unsure what to do as I know very little about cars I phoned Hyundai and was told to take it there today for another visual check to see if it is rust (and if so why they did not pick it up on the visual inspection last week) and if it is covered on the manufacturers warranty.


I've looked at all the pre-sale photos I have kept and there is no sign of discolouration / rust, and this was not picked up by Hyundai last week.


Does anyone know if these paint treatments can cause discolouration or is it more likely to be rust "covered up" that has now been revealed ? Not sure if I should be claiming on the manufacturers warranty or go back to the dealer I purchased it from ?

I wonder if it has been polished with a mechanical polisher with insufficient lubrication and the paintwork has become "scorched" ? Could this happen?

not sure if polish was done by mechanical means or by hand. Whole job took about 40 mins. The damage is on the drivers door and the passenger door in the same place. Have googled rust on this model and found some other similar posts about problems in this area (why didn't I find these when I was researching the car pre - sale :-/

Was there any raised areas in the paint?

It is possible that the polish removed the paint covering a rust spot, surprised to find something like that on a three year old car these days.

Take it to a bodyshop for some advice.

It does sound like the laquer might have been burnt.

Or when they have buffed it some material from the window seal as been picked up by the buffer and transferred to the paint.

I have never felt these paintwork protection and fabric stain protectors are worth the money.

I would rather spend the money on some decent wax and protect the paint that way, perhaps employing a good Detailer.

Have never had any cars paint deteriorate over a few years of ownership.

I took the car to Hyundai (manufacturer) rather than the dealer I bought it from and apparently it is rust and is a known issue on this age/model. Thankfully it will be dealt with under the warranty and they said if necessary they will replace the doors.
