    Have to agree with arcon. Geez, calm down people.

    OP, most likely the two sizes of pads are fitted to different sizes of discs. So you need to measure the disc diameter.

    I had the same at the week-end on a Polo, discs were somethink like either 254 and 284 mm, with corresponding pads.

    <quick google for part number>
    Oh, how unexpected. They fit an Audi A3.

    they're not always accurate. case in point do a search for exhausts and you'll find a variety of exhausts for a variety of engines.

    ECP and other websites like it do an approximate match based on the info they can get from the reg. But the reg info isn't entirely accurate.

    Do secondary research to confirm the pads are right for your specific car.

    if there are multiple brake options that were fitted to the your car in the year of build you should get a warning like this on the search page
    There is more than one choice of part for your vehicle. Please select the correct Brake Pads by checking the 'Fitment Detail' tab.

    one set will fit and one wont, with my car as soon as you mention brake parts the dealer will ask for the chassis number to determine the correct parts that are required

    But are they for a A3 Poverty-Line, or an S-Line?

    With some cars, it's not even that predictable. You have to actually remove a wheel and look to see which brand of caliper is fitted.

    If it's a VAG and you have the service book, then inside the front cover should be a printout with all the options fitted - the brake codes are 1XX
    The second set of pads are for 1ZE;1ZP;1ZD;1LJ so if these appear in your vehicle data, they will fit your car.

    If you don't have the service book there should also be a sticker on the boot floor (under carpet) with the codes.
