Charge to check prepayment meter?

My brother and sister in law have a prepayment meter and are convinced it's faulty and is over charging them. Utility Warehouse are saying they'll charge them £100 to come and check it- are they allowed to do that?
Thanks in advance.

Yes that is standard practice, albeit normally a little less than £100. Of course you get that refunded if the meter is faulty.
However it easy to check the meter yourself. Switch off everything electrical and plug in something like a 1kW heater and check that after, say, 30 minutes it has used 0.5kWh
Or you can get monitors cheaply that will carry out a check of consumption for comparison purposes.
First check that there is no debt on the meter.0
